Washington, D.C. is a city defined by its rhythm, and few sounds capture our collective heartbeat quite like Go-Go.

Since opening our physical doors in historic Anacostia in February 2025, the Go-Go Museum & Café has blossomed into a vital cultural destination. In just over a year, we have welcomed hundreds of visitors, hosted dozens of communities and educational programs, and created a permanent home where the history and legacy of our homegrown sound lives on.

To ensure our continued growth and sustainability, the Go-Go Museum is proud to announce its Second Annual Fundraiser—an unforgettable, Dress-to-Impress Affair celebrating the artists, leaders, champions, and history-makers who have helped shape Washington, D.C.’s official music.

This high-profile evening centers on the official 2026 Go-Go Museum Hall of Fame Inductions, Cultural Honors, and a brand-new Installation Reveal.
Hosted by surprise guest

*Food & Open Bar
* Hall of Fame Inductions & Cultural Honors
* Live Performances
* Installation Reveal
* Silent Auction
* …and much more!

Our Goal: $250,000
Our goal is to raise $250,000 to support the continued operations of the Go-Go Museum, live artist performances, educational programming, cultural preservation, and opportunities for artists and the community. This isn’t simply a fundraiser. It is an investment in preserving the history, culture, sound, and future of Washington, D.C.

Come dressed to impress and help us celebrate the people who built this culture — while investing in the next generation who will carry it forward.

If you are unable to attend the event, you are welcome to make a direct donation via our donation link.

Join us on Tuesday, September 1st at 6 PM for a Crankin Celebration!

This Go-Go Museum & Café event will celebrate the book release of Crankin! Power and Resilience in Washington, DC’s Go-Go Culture, the definitive new history of the culture from Georgetown University Press.

The program will begin with a panel discussion with Crankin! authors Alona Wartofsky, Charles Stephenson, Jr., and Kato Hammond. Crankin! spans go-go's beginnings all the way to its central role in recent social justice movements, including the movement for Black lives and the anti-gentrification activism of 'tMuteDC. This book details the life of go-go founder Chuck Brown; the genre’s early pioneers, Trouble Funk, Rare Essence, and Experience Unlimited; and go-go subgenres “3G” go-go gospel, grown ‘n’ sexy, and bouncebeat. The book also covers Snoop Dogg’s collaboration with Rare Essence and Backyard Band as well as go-go fashion and lifestyles, and, finally, the homecoming as go-go artists brought Chuck’s African-inspired beat to Africa.

The evening will feature a performance by Next Gen Krank, a band made up of teens from various D.C. public schools that represents the future of go-go. They’ll be joined by some of go-go’s brightest stars: Representing the iconic pioneers of go-go is the legendary Gregory “Sugar Bear” Elliott, longtime leader of Experience Unlimited (EU), the most commercially successful band in go-go history. Joining them will be go-go stars Anwan “Big G” Glover and Leroy “Weensey” Brandon of Backyard Band, a top band in the city for decades.

Authors:
· Alona Wartofsky
· Charles Stephenson Jr.
· Kato Hammond

Special Guests:
