A heartfelt THANK YOU to the Old Soldiersโ€™ Home Foundation for their generous donation of our new JBL Portable PA System! ๐ŸŽถโ˜€๏ธ

This incredible gift has already made a big impact during our annual Summer Kick Off Pool Party, helping create a fun, energetic atmosphere for our residents and staff to enjoy together.

As we continue making the most of the warmer weather, this portable sound system allows our Recreation team to bring even more activities outdoors while providing clear, high-quality sound for everyone involved. Its portability and ease of use have already enhanced several events โ€” and summer is just getting started!

We are deeply grateful for the Foundationโ€™s continued support and generosity in helping us create meaningful experiences and joyful moments for our residents. โค๏ธ

Here are a few photos of the PA system in action during last weekโ€™s pool party! ๐Ÿ“ธ

The Old Soldiersโ€™ Home in Washington, D.C. is one of those places โ€” filled with history, memories, service, sacrifice, and lives well lived. Taking a walk down memory lane through articles like this reminds us how important it is to preserve the places that shaped so many lives and communities.

You may have driven by the bucolic expanse of green bordering the Petworth neighborhood in Northwest D.C. without knowing what it was. But the Old Soldiers' Home has a history dating back to the Mexican-American War, and has a population of more than 340 retired military veterans.

We are incredibly grateful to the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America for an inspiring and impactful Day of Service at the Armed Forces Retirement Home in DC.

From the early morning hours, more than 60 dedicated volunteers came togetherโ€”bringing equipment, materials, and unmatched expertiseโ€”to improve our golf course. The energy, teamwork, and passion on display were nothing short of extraordinary.

So much was accomplished in just one day, and while photos can offer a glimpse, they truly donโ€™t capture the full spirit of what happened.

What made this day even more special was the pride of our residents. Their care and commitment to the course is what inspires professionals from across the country to step in and lend their support.

๐Ÿ‘ A special (though humble) thank you to Paul, who plays a key role behind the scenes in making efforts like this possible.

โ›ณ And a reminder to allโ€”this golf course is more than just a beautiful space. A healthy course directly supports the Residents Fund, helping enhance the quality of life for the heroes who call AFRH home.

It was a day filled with excitement, gratitude, and communityโ€”and we are so thankful to everyone who made it possible.

๐Ÿ“ธ Photos coming soonโ€ฆ though they canโ€™t quite do it justice.

The Old Soldiers Home Foundation was deeply honored to sponsor the departure dinner for our incredible Honor Flight veterans before they departed on this long-awaited trip to Washington, D.C. to visit the memorials built in their honor.

For many of these veterans, this journey represents healing, recognition, reflection, and a welcome home they may have never fully received. Seeing the excitement, emotion, and camaraderie in the room tonight reminded us exactly why this mission matters so much.

A very special thank you goes to celebrity chef Mike โ€œCajun Mikeโ€ for providing an unforgettable meal and helping make the evening truly special for our heroes. Your generosity, heart, and support meant more than words can express.

We also want to thank every donor, volunteer, supporter, guardian, and community partner who helped make this Honor Flight possible. It truly takes a village to honor Americaโ€™s veterans the way they deserve.

As these heroes take flight, we ask everyone to keep them in your thoughts and prayers for a safe and meaningful journey.

Welcome home starts now. โค๏ธ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ’™
