Another week, another headline about an institution going easy on men accused of assault and calling it handled. It's hard not to feel numb about it.

That's the backdrop Pastor Anthony preached into on Sunday, using a 2,000-year-old letter that sounds uncomfortably current.

The church in Corinth was split along class lines and met in homes across the city. Some of its wealthiest members expected to be treated like royalty. Paul wasn't having it, and his on power, money, and still hit.

This is part one of two, and it ends on a cliffhanger, so come back next week.

The church has sadly gained a reputation for judging outsiders while ignoring the issues within our own communities. We can’t keep pointing fingers at the world when we have our own mess to address! It's September, which means somebody somewhere just got assigned a group project and immediately felt their soul leave their body. Fitting timing, because this week we kicked off , our fall series on 1 Corinthians, a letter written to one very messy church.

Pastor Tonetta preached it exactly 22 years after a chaotic first semester of grad school in DC, and the lessons still hold. Over the next few weeks we're getting into the real stuff: rivalry, status, s*x, singleness, marriage, divorce. We probably won't all agree, and honestly, that's part of what makes worth it!
