We’re fighting for a union at LanguageLine Solutions. LLS workers in other countries have unions — why not here?

City officials in NYC stood up with us at a press conference on the steps of NYC City Hall. New York City uses LanguageLine interpreters, and these officials support our fight for a union with their words and with their wallets.

and it’s time to work with your interpreters toward a framework for Union recognition.

"Valerus said she occasionally tears up at work. 'Sometimes the kids and mothers lose their lives during childbirth or they are on life support [and] they need to decide whether to give their organs.' There used to be one or two minutes of downtime between calls, but multiple workers told NPR that has disappeared. All that remains is a mandatory 15 seconds between calls."

The Chief covered our fight for a union at LanguageLine Solutions!

“Workers described a system that prioritizes call volume over accuracy and wellbeing. ‘There’s no break between the calls,’ one interpreter with two years’ tenure said in the report. ‘After telling a [client] their child passed away… LLS should provide us a few minutes to recover.’

“Fifty-seven percent of respondents said they do not receive adequate training for all aspects of the job, and majorities reported being asked to interpret medical or legal conversations without sufficient preparation — raising concerns about errors in high-stakes situations.”

What’s disgusting? Union busting! 🗣️ New York City Council members and NYC Comptroller Mark Levine joined us at a press conference in NY yesterday to show their support for our fight for a union at LanguageLine Solutions!

We are calling on parent company Teleperformance Group to respect their workers’ right to form a union and improve working conditions! We face stressful working conditions, health and safety concerns, inadequate training, and low pay.

Leaders of powerful council committees overseeing city contracts, workforce development, and labor stood with LLS interpreters at a press conference on the steps of City Hall to announce the formation of a new committee on health and safety and demanded that management meet to address concerns impacting their ability to provide quality interpretation services to New Yorkers.

“As a New Yorker who grew up relying on interpretation and translation services, I would not be here today without the essential services provided by the interpreters at LanguageLine Solutions. These workers provide reliable interpretation that bridges the communication gap between patients and doctors, families and services, people and justice. It is heartbreaking to hear from our interpreters today about horrid pay and terrible working conditions. The City has allocated millions to interpretation services, and so there is no other choice but to listen to these workers and support their right to organize.” - Council Member Julie Won

"I genuinely take pride in what I do. As an interpreter I get to help people. However I also feel I am losing my own dignity working for LLS. They don’t treat us with respect and dignity which we deserve. In this company there is no professional development or mentorship opportunities. Pay does not match the responsibility level, stress we endure, or industry standards. It needs to change!" - Madhurima Ganguly, Bengali
