Millions of American children and families are suffering. And the agencies that serve them are struggling to meet their needs.

Today, we confront a global pandemic, a cratering economy, high unemployment, and social unrest. We also confront inequities that have been worsening for years—inequities in income, health care, public health, education, housing, social justice and more. More and more children and families who are Black and Brown have been falling into poverty, , and —and more have been disproportionately affected by . The turmoil of our times, however, offers opportunities for change.

Please join us from October 6-8 for the : "Advancing Racial Justice, Equity, and Inclusion for Children & Families."

Our world has changed significantly over the last several months. The ongoing pandemic has exposed the strengths and weaknesses of the systems, policies, and philosophies that shape how child welfare services are organized and delivered for populations that are vulnerable.

We all have witnessed the disproportionate impacts of COVID-19 on people of color and those living in poverty, as well as the recent global attention to racial inequities that persist, both within child welfare and within society at large. Now more than ever, we have significant work to do to ensure that all children and families have access to quality services and supports in their communities, bolstered by child welfare policies and practices that are intentionally focused on advancing racial justice, equity, and inclusion.

We look forward to exploring the evolution of services and the progress we’ve made; highlighting learning and innovations developed during these challenging times; discussing solutions and goals to achieve racial justice, equity, and inclusion; highlighting collaborative approaches for cross-system, cross-sector, and community engagement; and identifying system, policy, and funding changes needed for improved progress on family strengthening and child well-being.

CWLA PRIDE Model of Practice Virtual Implementation Training
October 19-23, 2020 – 11:00 am - 5:00 pm EDT

CWLA invites New Generation PRIDE-licensed agencies to participate in a virtual training program that prepares newly hired staff to implement the PRIDE Model of Practice. This model addresses the challenge of finding and keeping competent, committed resource parents. Trainers will demonstrate how to integrate the competencies that resource parents must have with the PRIDE preparation and assessment/approval process. This approach helps ensure continuity between what prospective resource parents are recruited, prepared, and approved to do and expectations after children join their families. Participants who complete this course will be prepared to facilitate the FosterPRIDE/AdoptPRIDE pre-service preparation and assessment program with prospective foster and adoptive parents, and to use the tools included in the PRIDE Model of Practice in their ongoing teamwork with foster and adoptive parents. CWLA's Children's Memorial Flag was created in honor of April's National Child Abuse Prevention Month. Flown on the fourth Friday in April, it serves as a symbol for the protection of children and young people from all forms of violence. Join CWLA's efforts to make children a national priority, by helping to make every day a peaceful, healthy day for America's children.
