Safe Shores’ Prevention and Outreach Program team members recently published a research paper detailing the years of work they have done implementing a child abuse prevention program throughout a select few DC Schools.

The research paper was published in The Journal of Child Sexual Abuse and discussed the lessons learned from implementing the Healthy Relationships Project at a pilot school.

💡Did you know that there are nearly 1,000 Children’s Advocacy Centers (CAC) across the country? While Safe Shores is the sole CAC for the nation’s capital, there are many other organizations that implement a multi-disciplinary team response to allegations of child abuse, bringing together coordinated, evidence-based, trauma responsive care to child victims of abuse and their families.

Each year, brings together leadership in the CAC field for their NCA Leadership Conference. This year marked a milestone: NCA’s 30th Leadership Conference, and Safe Shores was honored to host four breakout sessions for conference attendees.

The article, titled “’That Wasn’t So Bad,’ Limiting Additional Trauma in a Forensic Interview,” gives practical strategies used at Safe Shores to help children feel informed, supported, and empowered throughout their time at Safe Shores.
