Closing the racial wealth gap requires more than conversation—it requires collaboration, policy, and action.

The Association of Black Estate Planning Professionals (ABEPP) welcomed Maryland Delegate N. Scott Phillips for an important conversation about the policies and partnerships that can help families build, protect, and transfer wealth across generations.

Delegate Phillips discussed efforts including Maryland’s Transfer on Death Deed, initiatives supporting minority-owned businesses, heirs property, disparities in home appraisals, and the importance of connecting communities with the institutions and professionals already positioned to help.

One message was clear: no single profession, organization, or policy can solve the racial wealth gap alone.

Attorneys, financial professionals, policymakers, churches, HBCUs, businesses, and community leaders all have a role to play—and ABEPP is committed to helping build those connections.

In this powerful conversation for the Association of Black Estate Planning Professionals (ABEPP), Dr. LaTanya White sits down with Holli Holliday to discuss what it truly takes to prepare the next generation for wealth.

As a third-generation attorney and entrepreneur who co-leads a 70-year family legacy business, Holli shares lessons her family learned about building, preserving, and transferring wealth—including why financial conversations should begin early.

One of the biggest takeaways: Our children shouldn't only learn how to become beneficiaries. They need to understand what it means to be builders and stewards, too.

Building generational wealth requires more than transferring assets. It requires transferring knowledge, responsibility, sacrifice, and an understanding of what it took to build the wealth in the first place.
