Consistency makes the differenceโ€”and has shown up for our DC community again and again.

For years, the team at Planet Word Museum has supported our work supporting individual experiencing homelessness in so many meaningful ways: contributing financially, organizing book and board game drives, and volunteering at the Downtown Day Services Center.

Whether assisting with lunch service or partnering with us to host events in Franklin Park, their team brings care, professionalism, and genuine connection to everything they do. Their continued presence helps ensure our guests receive reliable, respectful support every day.

This kind of long-term commitment strengthens the foundation of our work, and weโ€™re deeply grateful for their partnership and generosity.

Interested in volunteering with your team? We offer weekday service opportunities, holiday events, kit packing, and more.

The DowntownDC Foundation is the only hyperโ€‘local nonprofit exclusively dedicated to Downtown DC, and our FY25 Impact Report shows what that focus makes possible.

We were proud to be highlighted at the 2026 State of Downtown Forum, where leaders from across the public, private, and community sectors came together at to explore whatโ€™s shaping Downtown DCโ€™s future.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by the Foundation table to check out our Welcome Home Kit display, engaged with our team, and took time to learn more about our work supporting homeless services, parks and public spaces and events and programming in our community.

๐Ÿ“˜ We also provided guests with a sneak preview of our own FY25 Impact Report being released next week! Stay tuned!

๐ŸŒธ Weโ€™re reflecting on a Cherry Blossom season full of FUN across Downtown DC.

This year, the DowntownDC Foundation, in partnership with DowntownDC, supported events and activations throughout Downtown DC like Jazz & Blossoms, a premier National Cherry Blossom Festival event, and GoGo & Sakura at Anthem Row, helping residents and visitors experience the season beyond the Tidal Basin.

Through philanthropic support, we helped fund printed visitor maps and materials that made it easier for people to navigate events, discover public spaces, and explore everything happening in our neighborhood this Spring.

Interested in supporting future printed materials โ€” like maps, guides, event giveaways and keepsakes โ€” that reach thousands of people in the heart of the city?

Weโ€™re pleased to welcome Richard Reyes-Gavilan, Executive Director of the DC Public Library, to the DowntownDC Foundation Board of Directors!

โ€œDowntownDC and the DC Public Library have always had a symbiotic relationship. When downtown thrives, the Library thrives, and when the Library is activated, it brings people into the heart of the city,โ€ said Reyes-Gavilan.

โ€œThe DowntownDC Foundation is doing critical work to keep these public spaces connected and alive, and Iโ€™m proud to join this board and be part of that.โ€

Richard brings decades of experience leading public institutions that serve as anchors for communities and civic life. As Executive Director of DC Public Library, he guided the $211 million transformation of the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library in DowntownDC, reimagining it as a welcoming civic hub and a lowโ€‘barrier resource connecting residents to learning, technology, and essential services.

WE DID IT ๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽ‰ Through your support and the generosity of donors like you, we surpassed our goal for the Hope for the Holidays campaign! Together, we raised $87,697.63.

Your investment ensures that we can sustain and expand vital services for our most vulnerable neighbors, provide life-changing resources at the Downtown Day Services Center, continue to offer free, community programming throughout the year, and revitalize DowntownDC parks and public spaces for all to enjoy.

As we look ahead, weโ€™re excited to build on this momentum and create a stronger, brighter, and more vibrant DowntownDC. Thank you for making this holiday season successful and for believing in our mission year after year.

DowntownDC Foundation Executive Director joined on to spotlight our Hope for the Holidays year-end giving campaign and our year-round work.

From signature community events to transformative park enhancements to programs like Welcome Home Kits for neighbors transitioning from homelessness to housing, your financial support makes this vital work possible.

๐Ÿ’ฌ โ€œWhen an individualโ€™s transitioning from homelessness to housing, they send us a wish list of items for their new place. We try to make their house into more of a home. Weโ€™ll supply them with some of the items you might not realize you needed, and things we take for granted.โ€

โœจ Weโ€™re less than $7,000 away from our $80,000 Hope for the Holidays goal, and with your help we can reach our goal before midnight tonight!
