In 2022, Progressive Multiplier awarded a $25,000 grant to One Fair Wage to promote their fee-based accreditation food and worker safety training program. Designed as an ethical alternative to industry-standard food safety training, Just Safe Food set out to both generate independent revenue and shift power in the food service industry by directing resources from anti-worker lobbying to pro-worker advocacy.

Florida Rising Together is testing a relational fundraising strategy designed to transform one-time donors into long-term champions for justice. Through structured outreach, storytelling, and intentional engagement, they are building a sustainable base of recurring donors to power organizing across Florida.

This experiment is helping to demonstrate how grassroots organizations can build independent revenue and long-term financial sustainability while strengthening relationships with their supporters.

What happens when youth leadership is fully valued—not discounted?
Youth In Action, Inc. Rhode Island (YIA) is proving that youth-led work isn’t just powerful, it’s worth investing in. With PM’s support, YIA tested a new fee-for-service model for their youth-led workshops. They shifted from chronic undervaluing to value-based priced, tiered fees, and a scalable train-the-trainer approach.

This is the Multiplier Effect in action: A $35K investment generated $24K in revenue in 12 months and is on track to raise $238K over three years—a 5.8 return on investment that directly strengthens long-term organizing power.

The result: Stronger revenue, clearer systems, and a growing path toward financial sustainability without compromising mission. This experiment challenges long-held assumptions about youth facilitation and offers a compelling lesson for organizations building power, equity, and independence at the same time. We’re excited to spotlight one of our grantees, PA Stands Up — a statewide, grassroots coalition building multiracial working-class power across Pennsylvania. Through their experiment with Progressive Multiplier, PA Stands Up increased their membership dues revenue by 10%, breaking through the boom-and-bust cycle of election-linked funding and allowing them to secure funding for a distributed organizer to work statewide, beyond their traditional chapter territories.

This is the Multiplier Effect in action: A $35K investment generated $89K in revenue, and is on track to raise $295K over three years—a 7.42 return on investment that directly strengthens long-term organizing power.

Luna serves as the Grantmakers United for Trans Communities Project Director at at our grantee alum Funders for LGBTQ Issues, a philanthropic network dedicated to advancing LGBTQ liberation by increasing, tracking, and coordinating funding for q***r communities and causes. She is joining as a board member for Progressive Multiplier Action Fund.

Rakiba functions as Vice President at the Nonprofit Finance Fund, where she helps nonprofits access capital and strategic guidance to build equitable, thriving communities. She is joining as a board member for Progressive Multiplier Fund.

Their leadership will advance our mission—financing independent revenue generation and multiplying knowledge across the progressive movement—as we continue strengthening the infrastructure that makes movement-building sustainable and powerful.

In 2022 and again 2023, we invested in Alabama Forward's Shake the Field program thanks to the partnership and support from Southern Poverty Law Center.

Three years later, we had the privilege to attend a reception where Alabama Forward led conversations about resilience and the realities of grassroots activism in the South, paired with powerful performances from the Shake the Field Artists Collective.

There is an indescribable joy in witnessing the power of music, culture, and activism. And it is a reminder that philanthropy has a role to play in investing in the financial resilience of grassroots organizations.
