As we close out Women’s History Month, we honor the life and legacy of 𝙀𝙧𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙚 𝙒𝙞𝙡𝙡𝙞𝙖𝙢𝙨 - an extraordinary artist whose creativity brought joy to so many.

At Meyer’s Gift Shop in Wynnton (Columbus, GA), Ernestine became known for her beautifully crafted Easter baskets, often shipped around the world. Each one reflected her imagination, care, and ability to make people feel seen and celebrated.

Today, her legacy lives on through her family, who continue this cherished tradition, spreading the same joy and love she so freely gave.

As Easter approaches, we remember Ernestine and the many women whose creativity and care leave a lasting imprint on our communities.

As February comes to an end, we are filled with deep gratitude for our journey of preservation and remembrance. 𝐂𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐁𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐇𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡

In the 1920s, as cars became symbols of independence, freedom, and upward mobility in America, some Black families achieved what had once seemed impossible: owning their own automobile. 📸

One such symbol of status and achievement was the 𝟭𝟵𝟮𝟳 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗦𝗶𝘅, solid, comfortable, upper-mid-range family car built by Buick (a division of General Motors) in Flint, Michigan. It was engineered to be smoother, more powerful, and more stylish than the most common cars of the era and offered a taste of luxury many families could only dream of.

Owning a Buick in the late 1920s was a meaningful sign of financial achievement for any family, especially for Black families facing systemic economic barriers in the Jim Crow era. Cars like the Buick weren’t just tools of transportation — they were symbols of dignity, self-determination, and the good life.

So this Black History Month, we celebrate not just the engineering of the 1927 Buick, but what that car meant for Black families striving for freedom, stability, and belonging in America. ❤️🚘
