31 Days Complete! ❤️

That’s a wrap! Thank you to everyone who took part in our 31 Days of Service challenge. Every act of service, every conversation, and every moment of kindness truly mattered. We are so grateful for the time and energy you shared with your community.

As we close out the challenge, encourage your friends and neighbors to start their own 31 Days of Service. Acts of service do not have to end here or with the new year. Try making volunteerism and community service a regular part of your routine. Even just one to two hours a week can make a big difference. Imagine what you and your community could accomplish by this time next year with that small, consistent commitment.

We will be announcing the winner of the Alfie plushie soon. If you have been following along during the 31 Days of Service, it just might be you 😉. Be sure to turn on post notifications so you do not miss the announcement.

Pay It Forward!

Today, pay it forward as we head into the second-to-last day of our 31 Days of Service. If you find yourself shopping at a mall, grabbing coffee, or picking up lunch, consider paying for the person behind you or treating them to something small. It’s a simple act that can mean a lot and may inspire them to pass the kindness along to someone else.

If you are not planning to go out today, reach out to a neighbor and offer to take them out for coffee or lunch, either today or another day that works for them.

Let us know how you completed today’s challenge in the comments, and check out our story for sneak peeks of the Alfie plushie you could win if you have been following along with the 31 Days of Service.

Spread the Joy of Volunteering!

For today’s service challenge, share volunteer opportunities on social media or with friends, family, or neighbors. You can even organize a small group and volunteer together. These opportunities might be local programs in your area, causes you are already involved in, or volunteer work connected to your church or a community organization you support. Sharing opportunities is a great way to inspire others to give back and to meet new, like-minded people along the way.

If you are interested in volunteering with youth and live in the DC area, check out our sister page, DC Tutoring & Mentoring Initiative , to learn more about their programs and partner organizations.

New Year, New Goals!

For today’s act of service, invite others to think about their goals for the new year. This could be a neighbor, a friend, or even someone you run into while out and about. Encourage them to pause for a moment and reflect on what they want to achieve in the coming year or in the near future, and how they might take the first steps toward those goals.

This is a powerful exercise in slowing down, reflecting, and turning big ideas into small, actionable steps. Taking a few minutes to think things through can make a real difference in how we approach the goals we set for ourselves each year.

Offer Your Skills and Expertise!

For today’s service challenge, offer your skills or expertise to someone for free. If you are an accountant or a retired accountant, you could help a friend or neighbor create a budget or prepare for tax season. If you are an artist or enjoy creating art, offer to make a free piece or portrait for a friend or family member. If you are a swim instructor, consider offering free indoor swim lessons to someone you know.

This is a meaningful way to give back using skills you have spent years developing or feel passionate about. It also helps someone who may not be able to afford these services or would not normally budget for them.

You can also check out free tax preparation services available through the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program and AARP Foundation Tax-Aide.

The VITA program generally serves individuals earning $60,000 or less and is offered by IRS-certified volunteers at libraries and community centers.

AARP Foundation Tax-Aide provides free tax help, especially for adults age 50 and older with low-to-moderate incomes.

Spend Time With Your Elders!

For today’s service challenge, spend some time with an older person. This could be an older family member you’re visiting for the holidays. Set aside some one-on-one time and ask them questions about their life to get to know them better. If you are not near older family members, give them a FaceTime call or see if an older neighbor would like some company.

Help Out in Your Neighborhood!

For today’s service challenge, go door to door in your neighborhood and offer to help your neighbors shovel snow. If there is no snow, you can offer to take out their trash or help them declutter their home, if they are comfortable with it. If you want to take it a step further, call a friend or family member and offer to help them in the same way.

For today’s service challenge, try signing up to donate blood.

Organizations like the American Red Cross are always looking for donors, so their website is a great place to find an upcoming blood drive near you. If donating blood isn’t an option, consider donating something meaningful to you instead. This could be a favorite shirt, a piece of jewelry, furniture, or a game.

Donating something that matters to you can be especially rewarding because you are passing it on to someone else who can give it a second life.

As always, let us know how you completed today’s challenge in the comments for a chance to win the Alfie plushie!

For today’s service challenge, offer to walk somewhere with someone. This could mean walking with a friend or neighbor to a coffee shop instead of driving or taking public transportation, or walking with a grandparent to a nearby restaurant. Walking may take a little longer, but it gives you time to enjoy the neighborhood and have a longer, more meaningful conversation with the person you are walking with. This is also a great way to get a little bit of exercising for your day.

Let us know where you decided to walk and who you walked with for another chance to win your own Alfie plushie!
