This , we're celebrating the organizations helping make cycling a cornerstone of sustainable urban mobility.

In Kenya, the Ebee Africa - Sustainable Transport Africa partnership is doing more than expanding access to electric bicycles, it is building the ecosystem needed for cycling to thrive. Through engagement with leading forums hosted by the Kenya Association of Manufacturers, Electric Mobility Association of Kenya, and World Bicycle Relief, eBee is bringing together stakeholders to advance cleaner, more inclusive transportation.

The startup has convened high-level discussions with UNEP, UN-Habitat, Nairobi City County, and transport authorities to advocate for cycling-friendly infrastructure and policy reforms. eBee's House of Cycling platform is connecting government agencies, private sector leaders, NGOs and advocates to champion cycling across Kenya.

Moreover, through innovative financing solutions, skills training and advocacy for safer cycling infrastructure, eBee is helping create greener cities, new economic opportunities, and more inclusive mobility systems.

To date, the company has distributed more than 1,500 e-bicycles and created over 300 direct jobs while working to make cycling a desirable transportation choice for the future.

A bicycle can do more than move people, it can help transform communities, create jobs and accelerate the transition to a low-carbon future.

As the world recognizes the role of cycling in building healthier and more sustainable cities, we're spotlighting the STROOM - Greater Stellenbosch Trust partnership in South Africa! Together, they are reimagining last-mile delivery through locally manufactured cargo e-bikes that help small businesses reduce transportation costs, lower emissions and expand economic opportunities.

By supporting township entrepreneurs, training riders and mechanics, and demonstrating the value of sustainable urban logistics, STROOM is helping build a cleaner, more inclusive mobility ecosystem one delivery at a time.

Rainforests don’t have to be cleared to create economic opportunity.

In West Kalimantan, Indonesia, Forestwise.earth’s Rainforest Value model is showing how non-timber forest products can create income, strengthen local economies and protect rainforests at the same time.

By combining digital traceability, local processing and forest protection agreements, communities are gaining economic opportunities without sacrificing the ecosystems they depend on.

Its latest policy brief outlines how Indonesia can close policy gaps to scale a forest-based green economy that rewards conservation and community welfare together. Read now: https://bit.ly/4vc3S2Y!

For many smallholder farmers in Kenya, harvest season is often followed by a difficult choice: sell crops immediately at low prices or risk losing them to pests, spoilage and poor storage conditions.

Too often, farmers are forced into distress sales because they simply cannot afford to wait.

A new policy brief from agriBORA and Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT shows how agriBORA's Warehouse Receipt System, dubbed agriGHALA, is beginning to change that story.

Through certified climate-smart storage, electronic warehouse receipts, access to financing and structured market linkages, farmers are now able to safely store their grain, use it as collateral for loans, and sell later when market prices are stronger.

One cooperative chairperson described the experience simply: “Storing maize is like having cash in the bank.”

A farmer shared how access to financing allowed him to purchase seeds and fertilizer for the next season before selling his harvest helping him avoid the cycle of distress sales that traps so many farmers.

The early results are promising:
🔸More than 18,000 kg of grain safely stored in Q1 2026
🔸Thousands of kilograms of post-harvest losses prevented
🔸New economic gains for farmers
🔸Warehouse receipt-backed loans issued with a 100% repayment rate
🔸Increased participation from women and youth traditionally excluded from agricultural finance

But the brief also makes clear that innovation alone is not enough. Scaling systems like agriGHALA will require predictable policies, expanded warehouse infrastructure, stronger financial participation, and farmer-centered awareness efforts.

This is an example of how enabling systems can help farmers move from vulnerability to resilience and from surviving harvest seasons to building long-term economic security.

Every day, millions of meals in Indonesia go unsold. Not because the food is unsafe, but because it is imperfect, overstocked or nearing its “best before” date. Most of it ends up in landfills, contributing to emissions and economic loss, while many families still struggle to access affordable food.

Surplus - Ekonomi Sirkular Indonesia is working to change that story.

Through a market-driven approach, Surplus Indonesia connects businesses with consumers looking for safe, affordable food that would otherwise go to waste. What began as a food rescue platform is now helping shape the future of Indonesia’s circular food economy.

A new knowledge product developed by Surplus and Greeneration Foundation explores the policy and regulatory barriers preventing food redistribution from scaling - from unclear food labeling laws to taxation policies that unintentionally discourage food donations and resale.

The report also highlights the partnerships, policy dialogues and ecosystem collaborations needed to unlock investment, strengthen food systems and help Indonesia meet its goal of cutting food waste by 50% by 2030.

Today, Surplus Indonesia has already engaged more than 1 million users and 10,000 merchants, proving that circular business models can deliver climate impact, social value, and economic opportunity at the same time.

As chilli farming continues to grow in Kenya due to its strong market potential, post-harvest handling remains a major challenge for many farmers. To help address this gap, Synnefa recently hosted a solar dryer awareness session in Kericho focused on chilli farmers and the importance of improved drying practices.

Many farmers still depend on open sun drying, a method that can lead to contamination, uneven drying, and lower product quality. The session introduced solar drying as a more reliable and controlled alternative, highlighting how proper temperature and airflow management can improve drying consistency, preserve color, extend shelf life and ultimately increase market value.

Farmers also explored how better drying practices can strengthen access to premium markets where quality standards are increasingly important. Beyond the technical demonstrations, the discussions focused on practical adoption, scalability, and how solar drying solutions can be integrated into existing farming systems.

By creating spaces for knowledge sharing and hands-on engagement, Synnefa is helping farmers build confidence in transitioning to more efficient and sustainable post-harvest solutions!
