Family Court Judge, Leslie Ann Celebrezze, Sentenced to 60 days in Jail and $10,000 Fine


Nearly six months after resigning in disgrace, former Cuyahoga County Domestic Relations Court Judge Leslie Ann Celebrezze was sentenced to 60 days in jail and ordered to pay a $10,000 fine for falsifying records to steer work to a friend.

After Celebrezze resigned, two court staffers said they had to follow orders to delay releasing records because Celebrezze simply called the multiple requests an “unfair attack against the judge that would go away.”
Cuyahoga County paid a $400,000 settlement to Celebrezze's former judicial assistant, Georgeanna Semary. Semary filed a civil rights lawsuit alleging Celebrezze demoted and retaliated against her for complying with public records requests from journalists.

Celebrezze faced a potential prison sentence of up to three years for the third-degree felony charge of tampering with records for steering work to Mark Dottore, a longtime family friend whom she’d repeatedly appointed to oversee lucrative divorce cases. Celebrezze bypassed the court's mandatory random assignment system. She manually assigned a highly contentious divorce case to herself and signed an official entry falsely stating it had been randomly assigned. Once the case was on her docket, she attempted to appoint Dottore as a mediator.

During disciplinary hearings before the Ohio Supreme Court, Celebrezze admitted to 15 violations of professional and judicial conduct rules. The court suspended her in January from the practice of law for two years, with one year stayed. She is now expected to lose her law license after being convicted.

Her attorney, Ian Friedman, told the court that Celebrezze has been serving a self-imposed house arrest, subjecting herself to electronic monitoring, since early February, at a cost to herself of more than $40,000. Friedman urged the court to consider that Celebrezze accepted responsibility and resigned her judicial seat in order to not drag out the case and further burden taxpayers. He said Celebrezze hopes to return to being a registered nurse someday.

Before she was sentenced, Celebrezze choked up when trying to read a short, prepared statement.“I am genuinely sorry,” Celebrezze said as she accepted responsibility.

Family law clerks do not help you because giving legal advice is illegal❌ for court staff. They are restricted by rules prohibiting the unauthorized practice of law, maintaining court neutrality, and managing high workloads.

Most Clerks of court are trained to tell you that they can't offer you legal assistance even when you ask the most basics questions about filing or responding to a motion. More often than not, these clerks know the answers to what you're requesting because they deal with the same issues repeatedly everyday for years.

A 37-year-old Atlanta woman, wanted for kidnapping in Maryland, was apprehended during a traffic stop on Interstate 85 in northeast Georgia. Alicia Denise Brown was taken into custody with the assistance of Georgia State Patrol troopers. The Hart County Sheriff's Office received notification of the vehicle's northbound travel and initiated the stop near Exit 177. Three individuals, including Brown and two minors, were safely detained without incident. Brown faces outstanding kidnapping-related warrants in Maryland and felony charges in Fulton County for interference with child custody. The Baltimore County Police Department had issued warrants for Brown related to the disappearance of a 10-year-old child reported missing in 2019, with Maryland authorities confirming extradition proceedings.

The Hall County Coroner's Office confirmed Sadé Rose died on June 21, Father's Day, at the family's home in Hoschton, Georgia. Deputies responded around 2:03 p.m. and the Hall County Sheriff's Office is investigating the drowning as accidental in nature. No details have been released on how she got to the pool or whether any safety measures were in place.

Jamal Morton, 33, known online as J'Amore and Mr. Jay, said Rose, the youngest of his nine children with partner Jessica Morton, slipped out of the house on her own. "She thought she was a big girl and could swim all by herself," he wrote on GoFundMe. The fundraiser was set up to cover the funeral, the family's relocation, and other immediate needs, and was taken down after it hit its goal.

He broke the news in that fundraiser message and an Instagram tribute featuring photos of his daughter. "You were the best daughter a father could ever ask for," he wrote. "Losing a child is a pain I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy." He closed with the prayer now in the post above, addressed to Rose.

The 33-year-old built his following on POV videos and comedy skits, and Rose often appeared in his posts. He shared video of her first steps this past April and included her in a Father's Day carousel hours before she died: "Happy Father's Day 2 all the REAL FATHERS, STEP FATHERS, & Grandfathers out there!"

Morton told his 2.6 million followers the family can't stay in the home where it happened. "We can't live in that house anymore, and I don't think I'll ever be able to work anytime soon." Some of his Instagram and TikTok tributes have since been removed, though his Facebook posts about Rose remain up, where he's asked for privacy as the family grieves.
