Living Classrooms of the National Capital Region is the DC-based affiliate of the nonprofit Living Classrooms Foundation.

It serves thousands of children, youth and adults in the DC region with a suite of hands-on education and career training programs.

Living Classrooms is proud to partner with the Department of Energy & Environment's Green Zone Environmental Program! 🌿
During the summer, we run three internship programs, with this particular cohort focusing on environmental career prep. Our GZEP interns were full of personality, and their vision for the future is one of community and environmental stewardship. Some of our favorite moments this year were spent at the National Arboretum, learning from Terry McLaurin, strolling through the lotus gardens at Kennilworth Aquatic Gardens, and of course, aboard our favorite buyboat, the Mildred Belle!
We are so wildly proud of our interns! It has been so wonderful to watch them grow as young professionals, and we expect only success in their future. See y'all next summer!

Caution, artists at work! Every summer, Living Classrooms of the National Capital Region offers a variety of internship programs, and today, we would like to look back on our Music Internship!

Our 6-week SYEP music internship featured robust, hands-on programming focused on original music creation, recording, music production, artist studies, a masterclass, and film scoring. Each week, our interns were introduced to new creative challenges designed to build technical skills, confidence, and artistic expression. Our interns also collaborated on projects, explored different styles and sounds, and gained real-world experience by bringing their musical ideas from concept to completion. It was an exciting, creative experience that encouraged teamwork, innovation, and a deeper appreciation for the many possibilities within music.

We would like to thank our interns for always pushing themselves beyond their horizons, y'all are going places!

Due to Thursday evenings storms, many trees are down on Kingman and Heritage Islands. Both gates are locked and the Islands will be closed until more debris is cleared.

This is an unsettling statistic, but one we can fight! The Dent House Community Fridge in Washington, DC is open to the public 24/7 and has shelf stable, produce, and ready-to-eat meals. If you or your family is in need, please stop by. The fridge is located on the porch of 156 Q St SW.
