The Mayor's Office invited FurnishHopeDC to be part of their LOVE is health & wellness event, open to all. SO many great resources for DC residents..I couldn't bring Furniture in to display what we do, but I did have 100 pieces of costume jewelry, small stuffed animals & very gently used & new clothing in all sizes to give away...
I didn't realize monthly events are held by the Community Liason Office...please check out their website!

Not easy doing deliveries today, unplowed streets, unshoveled pathways, & sheets of ice everywhere... but the FurnishHopeDC crew got it done! And 3 more families have beds to sleep on tonight, tables to eat at, & living room furniture in which to gather in a safe & comfortable way...thank you donors🙏

In January alone we'll furnish just under 40 homes. We are the only non-profit that I know of that does what we do...We actually deliver the furniture right to our clients home, no fee for pickup or installation. (We do ask donors & clients to tip our box truck driver & their assistant if they're happy w our service).
It's been 5 years this month.
But, we'll be taking a break in two more weeks, re-organizing & seeing what the future holds.
We cannot do this without a lot of Ward 8 community involvement & support.

This very large, designer brand/expensive sec'l in like-new condition, is for sale to benefit FurnishHopeDC ... Original cost $12,000, but selling for $1,000, all proceeds go to FHDC. Luxurious, soft black fabric with red corduroy accent pillows....come & get it today!!

Thank you Trader's Joe's & FoodRescueDC....we brought all these fabulous meats, vegetables, fruit, desserts & more (flowers too) to families living at Butler's Garden in southeast. I cannot begin to tell you how appreciative they were, how much pleasure I got out of bringing.. one woman who got much needed food brought me a hat she'd just received after I expressed interest in her crocheting💕

Santa stopped by the Busboys & Poets on MLK today just to see some of FurnishHopeDC's past & current families!!
It took a village, along with the North Pole to have enough gifts for parents to pick out exactly what they thought their children would like while the kids took turns on Santas's lap, stuffing their own stockings, & picking out gifts for their moms...

It's starting to look like Christmas!!
Adia is a Street Sense Newspaper worker; all she wanted when I contacted her after reading her story in the Washington Post, were gifts to be able to give her two grandchildren.

With a rented Uhaul today, we brought a full truck of donated furniture to 3 diff't homes today, where before we came there was nothing.
It's a lot easier than you think to do good!

DC makes it so hard to do good. Our box truck is filled with deliveries for 3 families today, & we were just pulled over by the Department of Transportation because the truck is bigger/heavier than allowed with normal truck classification?! First time in 5 years... I feel like this was similar to being targeted for an ICE raid because there were 3 black people sitting in the front seat in NW DC?!
