We are a part of the Milken Institute, a nonprofit, nonpartisan think tank focused on accelerating measurable progress on the path to a meaningful life.

A few weeks ago, we marked one year since opening our doors, and we’re still thinking about the people who made that year what it was. 🎉

Over the past 12 months, guests from across the country and around the world have come through the doors of the Milken Center for Advancing the American Dream (MCAAD). Many of them shared their own American Dream with us, and in doing so, inspired others to pursue theirs. Those stories are what make this place come alive.

The Center was built around a simple idea: no matter who you are or where you come from, you deserve an equal opportunity to succeed. When opportunity is open to everyone, the American Dream doesn’t just endure. It moves forward.

To everyone who has been part of our first year, thank you.

Tomorrow, October 3rd, we will unveil our newest addition to the Center - "Be The People". This interactive exhibit showcases the everyday heroes who helped create life-changing opportunities for generations to come. 🤝

With the help of reproductions of historic photos, prints, and early drafts of the Declaration of Independence, you can also follow along the journey of the people centuries ago who charted a path from subjects to American citizens.

"Be The People" will be on view on the second floor balcony in the Hall of Dreams. See you there!

This month brings back some crowd-favorite programs like our Architecture Tour and Slow Looking Sunday, along with some new events for our educators and entrepreneurs.

In observance of National Citizenship Day, we joined the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Washington Field Office in welcoming 50 new US citizens yesterday across two naturalization ceremonies — the first ever held at our Center. 🗽

Field Office Director Christopher Heffron administered the Oath of Allegiance. Our president, David Trulio, offered the welcome and led the Pledge of Allegiance, and Michele Kang delivered the keynote.

In a fitting overlap, September 17 is also Constitution Day. Today, 239 years after the signing, the candidates widened the "we" in "We the People."

To our newest fellow citizens, a sincere congratulations, we are grateful to be part of your story, and that your journey as Americans began here at the Milken Center for Advancing the American Dream. 👏
