It seems almost impossible to imagine that today would’ve been Collin‘s 26th birthday. I just keep replaying memories of him over and over again. It makes me so thankful for all the love and joy he brought to the world and to those around him. To celebrate his life and legacy, each year we try to do something meaningful to honor him in a powerful way.

Today we are proud to announce the development of a Bystander Intervention Training Program.

In partnership with Hazing Prevention Network and other dedicated collaborators, this training will be made possible for college students across the country because of the work, effort and contribution of every person and organization who has supported the Collin Wiant Foundation over the years. We’re deeply grateful for each and every person who has volunteered, donated, or led these efforts. This leadership development training is critical for equipping students with the tools they need at the moment they need them, because we know that one moment of courage can be the difference between someone’s life being shattered or saved.

It’s been over 7 years since Collin died from hazing at Ohio University, and not a day goes by that I don’t feel the weight of that loss. Since then, I’ve made a promise to myself and him to do everything I can to stop this from happening to another family.

Part of that commitment is serving on the board of the Hazing Prevention Network. This week in Tucson, I sat alongside people who care deeply about this work, and we had honest, meaningful conversations about how to push our mission forward. The momentum we’re building isn’t just organizational, it’s personal. It’s driven by the belief that every student deserves to come home.

We missed a few members due to scheduling conflicts, but their voices were still very much present in the room. This team shows up, in person or in spirit, because our mission matters.

And for me, it always comes back to Collin. He fuels every step of this work. 💜

Good Morning America did a great job in sharing more about what the Stop Campus Hazing Act will do and how it will save lives. Students nationwide will have access to look up any organization at any university and find a listing of all their hazing violations. This allows students to make educated and informed decisions about what organizations to join or not.

Three parents who lost their sons to hazing, Stephen Gruver, Evelyn Piazza, and Kathleen Wiant, discuss the “Stop Campus Hazing Act,” moving one step closer to becoming a law.

Unbelievable experience to watch from the gallery (no phones/cameras allowed) as the U.S. House of Representatives voted to pass the Stop Campus Hazing Act! This is a HUGE milestone that we have been working on for many years along with other families nationwide. We expect the bill to be hotlined by the Senate and signed by the President within the year.🤞🏼

This law will require all universities to post hazing violations on their website thereby providing transparency to students and parents, enabling them to make informed decisions about what clubs, teams, or organizations to join, or not. Collin’s Law only requires this for Ohio schools; Stop Campus Hazing Act will protect students NATIONWIDE!!

Grateful for the endless help and determination of Kevin O’Neil and the entire team at Arnold & Porter, as well as Hazing Prevention Network, StopHazing, Clery Center, Anti-Hazing Coalition, and bill sponsors Rep Jeff Duncan (SC), Rep Glenn Thompson’s (PA), and Rep Lucy McBath (GA). And a special thanks to Jud Horras (NIC), Dani Weatherford (NPC), and Todd Shelton (HPN).

The Stop Campus Hazing Act H.R. 5646 has officially passed through the Committee on Education & The Workforce!! It will be heading to the House floor for a vote this month.

This bipartisan bill requires all universities to be transparent on their website in reporting hazing incidents including the specifics of the hazing activity. Parents and students will have crucial information regarding what organizations haze so they to make educated decisions about what organizations to join, or not. (Collin’s Law only requires this for the state of Ohio - this will protect students NATIONWIDE!!)

Thank you to the Committee on Education & the Workforce, Rep. Lucy McBath, Chairwoman Rep. Virginia Foxx, Congressman Bobby Scott, Congressman Jeff Duncan, Congresswoman Alma Adams, and Congressman Glenn Thompson for their support! And thank you to our Arnold & Porter team who have worked tirelessly for several years to see this to fruition.

Although we can never bring back our beautiful sons, we will continue to do everything we can to eradicate hazing in hopes that we can save other families from the pain and loss we have endured. And this week, we are one step closer!!
