"Insurance only covered a certain number of sessions. How is that even fair?”

It isn't, but that's exactly what Carla was told while being treated for severe PTSD after surviving a violent crime.

No one tells a patient with diabetes or a broken leg they've used up their "sessions" for the year — but mental healthcare still gets capped, gated, and rationed like it's somehow different.

It isn't different. Mental health is health, and care that's fair means coverage for the treatment that people actually need to get better.

Carla's right to ask. What's your story? Share it and join the movement: carethatsfair.us

A new national survey from Research!America just confirmed what so many families already know: the cost of health care is Americans' top health concern, and mental health is #2, named by 14% of respondents — a number that's held strong for four years running.

These aren't two separate problems. When insurance companies deny, delay, and limit mental health care, the cost falls on real people. Our Care That's Fair campaign is fighting to make mental health care easy to get and easy to afford. Read what Americans are saying, and add your name at carethatsfair.us.

Did you know? More than one in five Americans live with a mental health condition, and nearly half will experience one at some point in their lifetime.

In recognition of Mental Health Month this May, we are taking a closer look at how Americans viewed the importance of mental health in our 2026 national survey commissioned earlier this year.

Health insurance should make it easier to access care, but too many people with coverage still face barriers to getting the mental health services they need. Maryland is taking action to close that gap.

Governor Wes Moore signed two new laws that will make it easier for Marylanders to get the behavioral health care they need, by:

✅ Making it easier for patients to get the care they need by requiring insurers to cover integrated mental health and primary care services

✅ Protecting patients' continuity of care when their providers leave their insurance network

This is what putting people first in health care looks like.

We’re proud to support this progress and want to recognize all of the advocates, champions, and community members who made this possible; special recognition to Mental Mental Health Association of Maryland, Senator Malcolm Augustine, and Delegate Heather Bagnall for their leadership in championing mental health access for all Marylanders.

Every family deserves access to mental health care, and Maryland is making it happen.

Two new laws will increase mental health access at critical stages in life, helping new mothers and students across the state get the mental health care and supports they need.

Last week, Governor Wes Moore signed two mental health bills into law, measures that will:

📚 Improve student access to school psychological services
🤱 Improve the identification and treatment of perinatal mental health conditions

These are more than just policy wins. They're deliberate investments in mothers, children, and the communities that surround them.

We're proud to have been part of pushing it forward and want to acknowledge the advocates, champions, and community members that helped make this win happen.

Huge thanks to Maryland School Psychologists' Association, Senator Malcolm Augustine, Senator Dawn Gile, Delegate Bernice Mireku-North & Delegate Jennifer White Holland for championing mental health 🏆

Nearly half of Americans with a mental health condition receive no treatment, and the advocates working to change that are often doing so without the tools they need.

The Win Workshop, which we're launching today, is built to close that gap. It's a seven-session curriculum that walks advocates through every part of running an effective campaign, from how to frame an issue and develop policy to how to build coalitions and engage policymakers, with sessions led by experts who have done this work at the highest levels.

You can explore the curriculum and companion guide at inseparable.us/winworkshop.

Yesterday, the Mental Health Association of Rhode Island — MHARI — gathered partners and lawmakers to celebrate 110 years of advocacy grounded in personal experiences and a firm belief in their power to improve mental health care systems for everyone.

We are proud to be counted among those partners, and we joined MHARI to look toward the next 100 years of advocacy and to honor RI State Senator Linda Ujifusa, District 11 and former Joe Shekarchi as MHARI’s Legislators of the Year for their upstanding support of mental health care and those seeking treatment.

Our own Director of State Affairs, Caden Fabbi, represented Inseparable and shared our coalition’s vision for strengthening mental health care in Rhode Island in the coming year.

Thank you Mental Health Association of Rhode Island - MHARI for your advocacy. Thank you to Sen. Ujifusa and Speaker Shekarchi for your service. And thank you to everyone whose lived experiences strengthen the call for better mental health care for people when and where they need it.

Together, we are inseparable.

A bipartisan coalition of 44 attorneys general just told Congress to pass the strongest version of kids online safety legislation — and to stop blocking states from protecting kids alongside them.

We couldn't agree more.

Twenty years ago, a father’s grief became a life-saving law.

Timothy O’Clair couldn’t get the care he needed. His father, Tom, turned his family’s pain into Timothy’s Law — New York’s first of its kind — that required insurers to cover mental health care just like physical health care.

Today, we honored that legacy. Governor Kathy Hochul recognized Tom's 20+ years of advocacy with a certificate of recognition. The State Senate issued a proclamation in his honor. Our own Abbie Hodgson stood alongside Senator Samra Brouk, Asm. Simon, , MHANYS, and Families Together in NYS. For some, this was a reunion two decades in the making.

But we weren't only celebrating. Senator Samra Brouk and Asm. Simon are sponsoring a bill — S.8426 and A.8839 — to permanently codify these protections amidst federal rollbacks. The progress we celebrate here is as real as the threat to that progress.

Tom showed us what's possible when grief becomes action. We know what works. It has worked before. And we will make it work again.

Good news, Delaware! The House Health and Human Development Committee voted yes on making mental health care fair and accessible in Delaware ✅

SB 22 limits prior authorization and requires insurers to use only high-quality, transparent , clinical guidelines to make coverage decisions for mental health care. The Committee passed the bill unanimously!

Sincere thanks to Sen. Bryan Townsend and Rep. Melissa Minor-Brown who sponsor the bill, and to our own David Lloyd, who testified at the hearing.

SB 22 continues to move through the state legislature, and the momentum is growing! Together, we can deliver fair standards in mental health care for the people of Delaware. The bill has a groundswell of support.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and policymakers across the country are stepping up to support this issue like never before. 🏆

In a powerful bipartisan effort, Inseparable’s Mental Health Caucus members Senator Byron Pelton (R) and Representatives Kyle Brown (D) and Lindsay Gilchrist (D) championed HB 26-1002 to strengthen Colorado’s mental health workforce. Passed last month, the legislation requires insurers to maintain accurate provider directories, speed up credentialing, and reimburse supervised pre-licensed providers, helping more Coloradans access in-network care.

Progress is possible when we put mental health first. Let’s celebrate this bipartisan win and keep pushing for accessible care nationwide. 🫂💜
