He’s living in the city, in an apartment, with a dog and a cat, and a foster mom who works out of the home. And he’s lived with kids previously! AND he’s wicked smart!!!

We were just heartbreakingly informed that Bjorn's foster can no longer take him back into care on the 11th as originally intended.

He has been doing incredibly well from the perspective of the foster, dog walkers, the vet, and our team. Bjorn's foster momproved that he does have an attainable placement.

She worked out of the home 2-3 days a week, lived in a garden-style apartment, and had no pets. He loved the structure of being in a home, his dog-walker breaks during work days, being the only dog in the home, his daily walks with his foster-mom, his kongs/lick mats during work from home days, sleeping overnight in his crate, and he really really really loved being in a home. Can you blame him?

We are so thankful for all her work and for her stepping up for him. She had previously asked to find a long-term foster to continue all the above which we were working on, but a change in scheduling now makes it impossible for her to take back on the 11th no matter how much she adores him.

That is why we're reaching out to everyone in our community.

We're all very sad his foster can't continue, but mostly we're sad for Bjorn current setup. When no one stepped up for his temp coverage, we were forced to place him with a new boarding partner. Now, poor Bjorn has no one to go home to on the 11th and is facing a huge set back on all the work that we and his foster have been trying to put in place for him.

His boarding is paid for through the 11th. So many of you helped us get boarding cleared out but now Bjorn & LB are waiting in the wings again and we must find them foster homes.

We know a foster is out there. We know his foster home is feasible. We just need help finding it.

Bjorn's recent foster was found through a Nextdoor post. That one of YOU posted -- not even us. Please share or post this to Nextdoor and your neighborhood listservs.

It’s National Black Dog Awareness Day so please let us reintroduce and introduce some of the black coated dogs of Laila’s Legacy!

Stella 🐑 - lover of the lamb chop toy. She’s a sweet and sensitive lady who keeps her bubble small but loves those inside the bubble fiercely.

Neptune 🧨 - he’s in search of his activity buddy. He’s a young shepherd mix dog and lets you know! His perfect home would be excited about training and structure.

Asher ☯️ - he is a real balanced guy. If you’re looking for the perfect family dog, Asher is it. Loves his people, kiddos, cats you name it!

Soul Patch (Patchy) 🤡 - he’s a young and exuberant companion. Goofy and silly he’s sure to keep everyone in house entertained. He’s good with dogs, cats, and kids!

Leo 🦁 - he’s another easy keeper. He loves all people and dogs and is our volunteer dog walker team’s favorite pup. Walks well on leash so he’d do well in the city or the suburbs. 

Tux 🤵 - true to his name, he is poised and steady like your go to tuxedo. Tux is wicked smart, loves his humans fiercly, and would love a cuddle buddy at home that’s calm and patient like he is.

We need drivers 🚗🚙🏎️🚕

In order to get Bjorn and Neptune safely to boarding tomorrow and Friday, we need a volunteer driver or multiple drivers to break up the length of the drives!

👆You’ll only be driving ONE dog and likely a small bag of their supplies!
🫂Other humans are welcome to join you but please no pets in the car with you for these two specifically.
🚪Drop off will be easy - their profiles and reservations are completed and you’re picking up from their foster parents!
🗺️ If you can only do a partial trip that is ok! We can get a relay going!

- Bjorn: Aspen Hill, MD 20906
- Neptune: Woodbridge, VA 22191

🎪 Dropoff Location:
- Jarrettsville, MD before 6 pm

⏰ Days & Times:
- Bjorn: Thursday 9/1 before 10:30A / after 2:30P
- Neptune: Thursday 9/1 OR Friday 9/2

Unfortunately, in the midst of more than 8 dogs needing to find temp fosters this weekend, no one was able to step up for Bjorn or Neptune and we were faced with the unfortunate decision to board them.

We are working with a new boarding facility this time, father out in Maryland that is indoor/outdoor and a bit quieter. They are also slightly cheaper at $39 per night instead $55.60 at our usual boarding facility.

‼️What we need from our community is‼️

🏡 Foster: Step up to temp foster dogs like Neptune, Bjorn, and the others we have in need. Many just need a few days to crash in a safe home. And while they will have so much freedom to romp in this new facility, every foster coverage deserve a home even if for a night, 3 days, or 10 days like these pups.

🤝 Share: we know there are fosters out there for both these pups! While this round is temporary, coverage only until the 11th, both dogs are facing needing a full time foster in the coming weeks or months. Sharing helps us reach other foster homes we can’t reach on our own!

💰 Donate: donating towards their costs will make a huge difference for us. Bjorn’s stay is $429 and Neptune’s is $390. While there is significant savings by using this facility, more than $800 on boarding means necessary financial resources are being diverted to boarding

🚗 Drive: We need drivers to get both pups to and from boarding so if you’re up for a longer drive, we’d love the help!

🎪 Volunteer: Help spread the word about Laila’s Legacy, finding fosters, volunteers, and donors, at adoption and community events!

We are on the hunt for a short term foster (or foster-to-adopt 👀) placement while Bjorn’s foster mom travels for work! ✈️

Can you watch him Thursday 10/1-11? Or know someone who can?

He’s been doing very well with his current foster mom! She lives in a garden style apartment, Bjorn is attending training with Tara at Complex Companions, walking very well on his leash / harness / muzzle combination, enjoying his crate overnight and while left during the day, and been a very good boy for our mid-day dog walker volunteers when the foster has been gone at work for a full day. 

Bjorn LOVES humans and did well around kiddos in a previous foster home and is a hugeeee cuddle bug - and many of his dog walkers would tell you much they adore him!

A temp foster home ideally has no other pets or able to separate from resident pets and is open to volunteer dog walkers coming if you’re gone for longer than 5 hours! 

Unfortunately, our recent dog-sitter host (she dog-sat in her home) is already booked so cannot take him in.

Please let us know if you can help for part of the time, the full 10-11 days, or would like to discuss a foster to adopt placement for this big goofy guy!

If you cannot foster can you please share this on social media? His current foster mom discovered Bjorn through NextDoor! Everything, including sharing, helps!

Sweet Layla’s first night in foster, including her new buddy! We raised $167 yesterday towards her $600 bill - thank you to everyone!

Layla is still needing two things:

1. A spot to hang out from 12-5 on Sunday while her current temp foster mom has a birthday party - lots of kiddos and open doors isn’t the ideal for a foster pup.

2. A longer term foster — she can live with dogs, cats, and overnight do well with her temp Foster’s kiddos!

Thank you to everyone who continues to donate and help us recoup the cost of her care and steps forward to foster!

Layla update!! ❤️‍🩹😍

For those of you that don’t know, Layla is one of our sweet and chill seniors. Her long term fosters said she’s a lounger and absolutely adore her with their animals in the home - they’ve fostered her more than a year! Their own dog had a some trauma early on in life and woke up out of a slumber and went after Layla so Layla needed to find a new place to land. Everyone loves her but they needed some time to support their pup and Layla needed a new place to land.

She went to the vet today to get her ear looked at. Her vet says she did very well! They cleaned her ear and provided a few stitches. She was due for a rabies vaccine in 2 weeks so we took the opportunity to get that done so she’s not stressed again so soon! Overall, her appointment was around $600 but we should have the final invoice soon. Please consider donating towards her vet bill, every bit helps! ❤️‍🩹

Layla is now resting in a temp foster! While she is good living with dogs and cats she is enjoying some solo dog time with a big backyard until Saturday when she will need another foster to take over. If you’d like to foster this sweet senior please let us know! 🥹

Today was truly NOT possible without so many people! Thank you to everyone who helped Layla — thank you to her long term fosters who drove her over 2 hours to vet, thank you to Annie for hanging with her at the vet, managing loading her sedated in the middle of the city, and then driving her to her temp foster, and last but not least… thank you to Sharon for temp fostering and giving this senior gal a safe place to land!

And a huge show out to everyone that shared on social or offered q temporary solution as early as 6 am today to try to get her to the vet! It truly takes a village to take care of dogs in rescue and we’re so grateful 😭

We’ll keep you updated on her progress but for now please enjoy these sweet photos of her in her head wrap 🥹❤️‍🩹
