For more than 400 years, to***co has been part of Virginia’s story — from the earliest commercial crops at Jamestown to the farms, warehouses, river ports, and to***co towns that followed.

That history still influences pipe to***co today. Virginia to***co is one of the most popular types of pipe to***co, known for its natural sweetness and versatility.

The Pipe To***co Council (PTC) was on the ground in Cheyenne, Wyoming, for the 30th Annual Rocky Mountain Cigar Festival, held August 1 at the Little America Hotel & Resort. Hosted by Smoker Friendly, this year’s festival marked the first time the event was held in Cheyenne.

While pipe to***co imports experienced sharp swings over the past five years, exports followed a steadier long term climb.

U.S. pipe to***co exports increased from roughly 159,000 kg in 2020 to more than 452,000 kg in 2021 before moderating in 2022. In recent years, exports accelerated again, reaching new highs by 2025.

The broader trend suggests that U.S. pipe to***co products are reaching a significantly wider global market than they were just a few years ago.

Mexico emerged as the dominant export destination in 2025, while demand also expanded across parts of Asia, Latin America, and Europe.

The bigger takeaway is not just export growth. It is that pipe to***co has become a far more global category than it was at the start of the decade.

Pipe to***co turned out to be one of the biggest surprises in the import data. Imports jumped from around 207,000 kg in 2020 to over 1.4 million kg by 2022 before entering a volatile phase.

This shows a real shift in how much of this product is coming into the market.

PTC will continue monitoring the market trends to see if the category is settling into a new normal or whether another major shift is still ahead.

From 2020 through 2025, the pipe to***co import market experienced substantial swings.

• Massive growth in 2021.
• Rapid acceleration in 2022.
• Sharp pullback in 2023.
• Renewed expansion afterward.

That kind of volatility is unusual for a category that historically moved much more gradually.

The data suggest the industry is moving through a broader transition period, whether from changing sourcing strategies, shifting consumer preferences, inventory normalization, or regulatory adaptation.

Indonesia barely registered in U.S. packaged pipe to***co imports before 2022. Then import volumes shifted sharply.

In 2022 alone, Indonesia accounted for more than 868,000 kg of imports, significantly influencing the market in a single year. That spike helps explain why 2023 looked weak by comparison and why later rebounds need to be viewed in context.

When a single supplier dramatically alters the baseline, every following year tells a more complicated story than a simple up or down headline.

Sometimes the most important trend is not the latest number. It is the market reset that came before it.

The last five years tell a remarkable story about divergence inside the to***co market.

Pipe to***co imports surged from roughly 207,000 kg in 2020 to well above 1 million kg in later years.

Roll your own to***co also grew sharply in 2021 and 2022 but never sustained the same momentum. By contrast, recent years show continued softness and contraction in the category.

The data makes one thing clear — consumer preferences have shifted. The question for manufacturers isn't whether change is happening. It's how to respond to it.

Five years ago, U.S. packaged pipe to***co imports were barely above 200,000 kg annually.

Today, import volumes remain multiple times above those levels. What changed?

The supplier landscape completely shifted. Indonesia drove the first major wave in 2022. Then the Dominican Republic, Denmark, and other suppliers reshaped the market again over the following years.

This no longer looks like a temporary spike tied to one country or one shipment cycle.

Over a five year period, the data increasingly suggest broader shifts in sourcing patterns, consumer demand, and product positioning across the to***co category.

Is 2025 Really a Breakout Year for Pipe To***co Imports?

The 5 year trend says yes but with an important caveat.

U.S. packaged pipe to***co imports climbed from just 207,000 kg in 2020 to roughly 567,000 kg in 2021, then increased sharply to 1.43 million kg in 2022 before pulling back in 2023.

That places the 2025 increase in a broader context.

Rather than a completely new trend, 2025 looks more like the market regaining momentum after the sharp correction that followed the massive Indonesia spike in 2022.

The bigger story may not be rapid growth.

It may be that the market appears to be operating at a materially higher import baseline than before 2021.

That is a very different signal for manufacturers, importers, and regulators watching long term category demand.

The Pipe To***co Council was on the ground last weekend at the Chicago International Pipe Show. Senior Vice President of Government Relations Patrick Anderson is pictured here with Isaac Jaffe, Treasurer of the United Pipe Clubs of America.

The Chicago International Pipe Show celebrated its 30th anniversary this year. It remains the largest pipe exhibition in the world, bringing together pipe makers, to***co enthusiasts, and over 100 vendors. By attending pipe shows like these, PTC demonstrates its commitment to staying engaged with the industry.
