After six years and no evidence of fraud, election deniers are targeting laws that make voting easier, recasting them as "rigging" simply because they let more people participate.

The shift reflects a broader effort by the anti-voting right to soften its conspiratorial ideas to appeal to a wider base, sow distrust in routine election procedures, and court support for the GOP’s harsh anti-voting policies.

Our research at States United Action has identified 132 election deniers across 35 states running for statewide or federal office this year, many for roles like governor and secretary of state that wield real power over how elections are run and certified.

As our research director Kelly Rader puts it to Democracy Docket: "We're halfway through the midterm cycle, and more than 130 Election Deniers have already secured spots on the November ballot. Election denial continues to be a defining force in the 2026 election landscape. This year's elections really matter because the candidates who win will play a key role in how elections are run and how Trump's power is checked."
