Washington Township Youth Association

Washington Township Youth Association A non-profit organization providing sports programs for children in Warren County, NJ. The first official team was organized in 1957.

The Brass Castle Youth Association, today known as the Washington Township Youth Association, was formed in the spring of 1956 by Jim Strunk and Phil Friese to accommodate Brass Castle baseball players unable to play for Washington Borough. The team was sponsored by King’s Coal and Lumber Yard whose symbol was a cub. They played their home games in a field next to the grange on Brass Castle Road.

Over the course of 55 years, thanks to the founders’ initiative and vision, the youth association has grown from one baseball team with 15 participants to 65 teams from 9 sports with 750 participants. The 1957 Brass Castle Cubs included: coaches Bob Detrick, Dick Rhinehart and Ed Krouse, and players Duane Bodine, Ed Krouse, Jonathan Ash, Barry Smith, Terry Payne, Lester Kober, Bob Opdyke, Bitsey Blanche, Dan Quinn, Greg Payne, Chuck Rhinehart, Jim Strunk, Dan Bodine, Dave Detrick and Craig Person.

The weather gods smiled on yesterday!

A giant thank you to Coaches Matt Dell Elba and Vanessa Dixon, and assistant JR Rakowski, for running a phenomenal clinic.

It was amazing to watch the players have so much fun while genuinely soaking up new skills and learning from the best.

Thank you all for your hard work and dedication to the players. It was a truly great experience for everyone involved!
