Let's try to help two of our fabulous WLCSD teachers get some extra grant money from Michigan Schools and Government Credit Union! Once you register with the site, you can vote 5 times a day (per email/phone number... just saying 😏). The 70 grants with the most votes will win.

Michelle Brandon from WLN is trying to win money to purchase tents for her Outdoor Pursuits class.

October kicks off the FFE classroom grant cycle and we are thrilled to have a budget of $55,000 to support schools and classrooms in Walled Lake.

Between October 1st and October 18th, staff are invited to apply for grants that support their classroom or their school.
The applications (we get a LOT of them) will be reviewed with district administration to ensure they are supported by WLCSD. The grants will then be reviewed by the FFE Grant Committee, and funds will be distributed to the approved projects.

Then comes the fun time... Popping into classrooms and surprising teachers with $$!
We can't wait for teachers and students to benefit from new items in their classrooms.

This is one of our favorite events of the year! We love to catch up with our retirees and give them a chance to catch up with former colleagues and friends. They also get to hear updates about the district, what's been going on with the FFE, and this year, everyone got to tour the reconstructed Walled Lake Western High School.

A huge thank you to Michelle Tomei from M3 Investment Services for sponsoring the event and Walled Lake Schools Federal Credit Union for the great tote bags given to all the retirees.

We are sharing this great event to support the Lakes Area Youth Assistance organization. Taste of the Lakes is a fun and joyful event to support youth in Walled Lake Schools. Check out the description of what Lakes Area Youth Assistance does below.

What is Lakes Area Youth Assistance? (In their words!)

Lakes Area Youth Assistance (LAYA) is a nonprofit organization with casework staff and volunteers who are dedicated to supporting youth and families within the Walled Lake Consolidated School District. LAYA focuses on prevention and early intervention by providing confidential, voluntary, and cost-free services designed to help young people overcome challenges and build a foundation for future success.

LAYA serves youth age 18 and younger and their families throughout Walled Lake, Commerce Township, Wixom, the Village of Wolverine Lake, and portions of Novi, Farmington Hills, White Lake, and West Bloomfield. Referrals may come from schools, law enforcement, parents, community agencies, or other adults concerned about a young person.

In addition to short-term, family-centered casework and referral services, LAYA provides a variety of programs and resources, including skill-building and camp scholarships, family and youth education programs, Mentors PLUS, Holiday Adopt-a-Child, and Shop with a Hero.

Through these programs, LAYA works collaboratively with families, schools, law enforcement, and the community to provide young people with positive opportunities, resources, and support while helping prevent more serious challenges in the future. Lakes Area Youth Assistance is part of the broader Youth Assistance network serving school districts throughout Oakland County.

We love seeing FFE Grants in action!

Last December, the FFE provided Pleasant Lake Elementary with funds to build their "Shark Fin Lounge" as part of their Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Program.
Here is what the PLE Principal, Andrea Hasse, had to say:

"Pleasant Lake Elementary is grateful for our grant last year as we launched the "Shark Fin Lounge". This area is a part of our PBIS programming where students who are caught following Shark Pride: respectful, responsible, and cooperative earn a ticket to attend the VIP lounge area and some special celebratory time out of class. We rolled out the red carpet and stanchions to welcome in students!

Students' names are pulled once a week and then attend the "party" that following Friday. This past week it was a glow stick and Ring Pop celebration! GO SHARKS!"

We love when FFE funds make kids and staff smile!
