As Hurricane Isaias prepares to make landfall tonight, BISSELL Pet Foundation's Animal Incident Management® (AIM) team has been racing against the clock to protect as many pets as possible.
The mission was clear: create lifesaving space before the storm arrives. Working alongside our partner, Greater Birmingham Humane Society, our team coordinated the movement of pets inland so that shelters in Isaias's path would have room to respond when their communities need them most. Thanks to the generosity of BISSELL Pet Foundation's destination partners, pets from Birmingham, Mobile County Animal Shelter and The City of Mobile Animal Services found safe places to go.
By moving pets from Mobile to Birmingham, and from Birmingham to partner shelters, both communities now have critical space available to take in animals who may be displaced by the storm and support families facing uncertainty in the days ahead.
This effort would not have been possible without the incredible collaboration of so many partners. Kentucky Humane Society stepped up to help transport pets from Mobile, destination shelters opened their doors without hesitation, and the AIM team worked late into the night alongside the Birmingham team to move as many animals as possible to safety. Now, we wait.
While we're grateful for every pet that reached safety before the storm, our thoughts are with the people, families, shelter teams, and animals who are in Hurricane Isaias's path. The relief of today's accomplishments is tempered by the reality of what may come next.
AIM team stands ready to respond wherever needed, helping keep pets safe, supporting shelters, and doing everything possible to keep families together during a difficult time.
