We’re making a small change to better serve you and keep information clear and easy to find!

Moving forward, this page will be dedicated to all things Wabash County 4-H — including local club updates, events, opportunities, and celebrations right here in our community.

Follow Purdue Extension Northeast Region for additional programming happening in your area, including:

🌳✨ A TREE WITH A STORY… AND A WHOLE LOT OF GRATITUDE! ✨Want to know where Purdue Extension Wabash County’s “SPACE TREE” is hiding? 👀

Check out last Friday’s post for the space history behind this special tree!

Our very own Diamond Anniversary Sycamore Tree was grown from seeds that traveled to space and returned to Earth in 1988 on the Spaceship Atlantis! 🚀🌎 The tree was planted at Asherwood (Acres Land Trust) but remained unmarked… until now!

Purdue Extension decided it was time to find it, recognize its incredible history, and give it the marker it deserves. And we couldn’t have done it without some wonderful community partners! 💚

🙌 A HUGE THANK YOU TO:
🌿 ACRES Land Trust for keeping such wonderful records and helping us identify the exact tree.
🪨 Logan McDonald and McDonald Monuments of Wabash, IN for generously donating his time. assets, and expertise to collecting the stone, mounting the plaque, and delivering it to ACRES Land Trust to mark our Space Tree.

🌳🚀 A LITTLE WABASH COUNTY HISTORY THAT’S OUT OF THIS WORLD! 🚀🌳

Did you know that a piece of NASA space history is growing right here in Wabash County? 🌎✨

In 1988, seeds from two Indiana tree species, the sycamore and tulip tree, took an extraordinary trip aboard the Space Shuttle Atlantis with NASA astronaut and former Indiana 4-H’er Jerry Ross (bottom right in the photo)!

After traveling 1.8 million miles and orbiting Earth 68 times, those seeds returned to Indiana and were distributed to all 92 counties as part of Purdue Extension’s 75th anniversary celebration in 1989.

🌳 Our very own Diamond Anniversary Sycamore Tree was grown from one of those space-traveling seeds!

More than just a tree, it represents 75 years (now 113 years) of educational service to the people of Wabash County and Extension’s ongoing commitment to serving our communities for generations to come.

From planting seeds in space to growing knowledge right here at home, Purdue Extension continues to help our communities grow! 💚🌱
