An 11-month-old girl survived r**e and abuse with a brain injury after police were called to a Springfield Township, Ohio, motel because she'd stopped breathing. Officers found bruises and other visible signs of abuse across her body.

Jamilee Hunt, 38 at sentencing, was convicted in April 2026 of nine counts, including r**e of a child under 13, felonious assault, and child-endangerment offenses, prosecutors said. On Sept. 28, 2026, Judge Joy Malek Oldfield sentenced her to life in prison, with parole eligibility after 55 years. The court also classified her as a Tier III s*x offender. If released, she'll have to register with the local sheriff every 90 days.

Hunt was living at a Red Roof Inn with her boyfriend, Jason Santos, and his daughter when the abuse occurred in November 2024. Doctors found broken ribs, arms, and legs, a broken clavicle, and internal bleeding. Some fractures were in different stages of healing, prosecutors said.

The girl was taken to Akron Children's Hospital and survived. Santos pleaded guilty to eight felony charges in April 2026 and was sentenced to life in prison. He was also classified as a Tier III s*x offender.

Prosecutors said Hunt initially gave police a false name, Nicole Abare, then left saying she needed to find a lost dog. Investigators later identified her. The adults blamed the baby's injuries on a dog, but the medical findings didn't support their explanation.

In September, the prosecutor's office said the girl was living safely in a new home. She'd been placed with a new guardian after surviving the injuries.

This week, 13 individuals were arrested in connection with an investigation into illicit massage parlors in Roanoke County. Eleven were charged with maintaining a b***y place, and two were charged with frequenting one as a “john,” or buyer.

Human trafficking and s*xual exploitation are happening in our own communities, but we don’t always recognize it.

While prostitution may be the visible activity, we must also consider who may be behind the scenes using force, fraud, and coercion to exploit and control others. Those experiencing trafficking are not always easily identified as victims.
