➡️ Cyclones and Severe Storms Affect Communities in India and Taiwan
Over the past week, powerful storms have brought loss of life, widespread damage, and displacement to communities in India and Taiwan. On October 28, Cyclone Arnab struck India's eastern coast, bringing destructive winds and heavy rainfall to Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. More than 180,000 people were evacuated ahead of the storm, while fallen trees, damaged homes, and disrupted electricity affected communities across the region. By October 29, authorities had confirmed at least six deaths. In Taiwan, Typhoon Champi swept past the island on October 24, leaving one person dead and 527 injured. Strong winds damaged buildings, uprooted trees, and disrupted electricity to thousands of homes.
As communities begin recovering, families are facing damaged homes, interrupted livelihoods, and uncertainty about what comes next. For some, the immediate need is safe shelter and essential supplies, while others are working to restore their homes and return to daily routines. Children, older adults, and families already facing difficult circumstances may be especially vulnerable. Emergency personnel and local organizations continue supporting affected communities, while churches have an opportunity to walk alongside families with practical care, encouragement, and spiritual support. Continued compassion and assistance will be important as recovery efforts move forward.
🙏 Lord, we lift up the communities affected by Cyclone Arnab in India and Typhoon Champi in Taiwan. Comfort those grieving the loss of loved ones, bring healing to the injured, and protect families whose homes and livelihoods have been damaged. Provide safe shelter, food, clean water, and essential resources for those in need. Give strength and wisdom to emergency responders, local churches, and organizations as they care for affected communities. May families facing uncertainty experience hope, encouragement, and compassionate support throughout their recovery. Lord, hear our prayers.
➡️ Learning and Growing in Faith in the Dominican Republic
In the Dominican Republic, the Pathway for Children Child Development Center walks alongside children and families in a community facing poverty, providing opportunities that nurture their physical, educational, and spiritual well-being. The center serves nutritious lunches three days a week, offers English classes, computer training, and homework assistance, and creates a caring Christian environment where children can learn and grow. Through these activities, the ministry helps children develop essential skills while encouraging their faith and building relationships within the community.
A recent update from the center shared a joyful moment as children participated in classroom and Sunday school activities using El Mundo Abby, an interactive children's program designed for ages nine and younger. Through educational and discipleship videos, the children explored lessons in an engaging way before finishing the activity by coloring a picture of Abby the bee. Moments like these reflect the center's commitment to making learning meaningful and enjoyable while nurturing children's spiritual development. Through the care and dedication of those serving at the center, children continue to experience opportunities to grow in knowledge, creativity, and faith.
