💔 BUT HER STORY WASN’T ALWAYS SO HAPPY.

Three years ago, Layla was found wandering near railroad tracks near downtown Victoria, Texas, heartworm positive and terrified of people.

We don’t know what her past looked like, but we remember how she would cower in fear when someone approached. It took MONTHS of patience and love to earn her trust.

Today, that once-frightened girl has become a loving, playful, devoted companion 🥹❤️

AND AFTER THREE YEARS, SHE’S HAD ONLY ONE ADOPTION APPLICATION 💔

Yaya doesn’t need a perfect home. She needs a patient person who understands that the best relationships sometimes take time.

But behind that goofy smile is a story that isn’t funny.

R***r was struck by a vehicle, shattering his leg so badly that veterinarians had no choice but to amputate it.

He lost a leg, NOT his love for life! ❤️

His foster family says he’s one of the happiest dogs they’ve ever known. One minute he’s a distinguished gentleman, and the next he’s an oversized baby demanding kisses and cuddles!

And those EYES… 🥹 His foster mom says when R***r looks at you, it’s like he’s looking straight into your soul.

So why hasn’t anyone chosen him?

Is it his missing leg? The pit bull label?

It’s about breaking stereotypes, promoting responsible ownership, and reminding people that dogs deserve to be judged as individuals, not by their breed or appearance.

🐾😂 IT’S PIT BULL AWARENESS MONTH… AND FUDGE HAS DECIDED SHE QUALIFIES 😂🐾

There’s just one tiny technicality…

Fudge is a Chihuahua 🤣

But apparently nobody has ever explained that to her, because this girl has the confidence, opinions and attitude of a 70-pound pittie packed into one tiny little body.

And honestly? Fudge has earned the right to have a few opinions about life ❤️

At only six months old, Fudge ended up in a kill shelter after a bite case and was scheduled to be euthanized.

We will probably never know the full story of what happened to her before that. There were concerns that she may have experienced mistreatment, but what we can say for certain is that we have seen the effects of trauma in her behavior, and whatever her beginning looked like, it was not an easy one.

Then someone stepped up.

Her foster was at the shelter helping save other dogs from euthanasia when she saw little Fudgy. She knew she couldn’t walk out of there and leave her behind.

So she said yes.

And that yes saved Fudge’s life 👼❤️

For the past three years, her incredible foster family has stayed committed to her, giving her safety, stability, patience and love while allowing Fudge to be exactly who she is.

And who is Fudge?

Well… 😂

Honestly, Fudge is a really great girl ❤️

She can be people selective and dog selective at first — because Fudge likes who Fudge likes 🤷🏻‍♀️ 😂 — and she definitely tends to prefer women over men.

Funny enough, when she comes to stay with us, she gets along with every dog in our home and has an absolute blast. She runs, plays hard, gets silly and is constantly wearing the biggest smile… But every now and then she has a moment that reminds us all:

Fudge runs the show, she chases my son right back to his room 😂🐾

And then there are her squeaky balls ⚽️😂

Those are her absolute FAVORITE.

Fudge carries her squeaky ball around like it is her most prized possession. Room to room, outside, inside… wherever Fudge goes, that little ball is probably coming too.

It is basically her emotional-support squeaky ball.

Seriously… 🤣❤️

Fudge is also not the girl who is going to walk into a room and immediately start handing out friendship bracelets to everybody.

Her trust has to be earned.

But once you are one of her people…

You are IN ❤️

Several times throughout the year, when her foster pawrents travel or have work meetings, Fudge comes back to stay with us for a week or sometimes even a month.

And she absolutely LOVES her little rescue vacations. This tells us she doesn’t have an issue with environment changes 💗

She comes bouncing back in, settles right in, plays her heart out and reminds everybody that despite her tiny Chihuahua frame, she is clearly still in charge of security.

Her foster family has given her something she almost never got the chance to have:

Time 🥺

Time to heal.
Time to learn.
Time to trust.
Time to be loved.
And time to wait for the right person instead of being judged forever by the worst moment of her puppyhood.

Fudge is not going to be the perfect dog for every home.

And that is okay.

She does not need everybody to love her.

She just needs the right person or family to love her for exactly who she is ❤️

Because of her history and personality, Fudge needs a home without children or cats, and we would want any dog in the home to be properly introduced to make sure it is the right fit.

So in honor of Pit Bull Awareness Month, Fudge would like to remind everyone that sometimes the biggest personalities really do come in the smallest packages.

She may technically be a Chihuahua…

But mentally?

Full-grown pit bull with a security badge, an emotional-support squeaky ball and absolutely no interest in your opinion 😂🐾

We recently had to buy cheaper hard dogfood because we simply couldn’t afford enough of the brands our dogs are used to. Unfortunately, several of our babies are now dealing with diarrhea, GI upset, vomiting and accidents from the sudden change.

We have applied for so many dog-food grants and assistance programs and received another denial this morning that we didn’t meet the criteria 😣 It is discouraging, but these babies still have to eat every single day.

🐾💙 LET’S NOT FORGET ABOUT BAXTER 💙🐾

It’s Pit Bull Awareness Month, and if there is one boy we wish we could place directly into the hearts and homes of everyone scrolling tonight… it would be Baxter 🥹

Because after more than TWO YEARS of waiting, we still find ourselves asking:

How has nobody chosen this boy forever yet? 💔

Baxter — affectionately known as Baxie — is 3 years old and about 45 pounds of smiles, sweetness, loyalty and pure joy.

And when we say he smiles… this boy SMILES from ear to ear 😁💙

Take him to the beach?
Best. Day. Ever. 🌊

Let him splash and play in the water?
He’s in his element 💦

Bring out a toy?
You officially have his attention 😂

Tug-of-war and chase with his foster fur-siblings are two of his all-time favorite things, and when playtime is over, give Baxter his toys, a favorite blankie and a few good treats and this boy is HAPPY 🧸❤️

He has wonderful manners, knows how to sit on command, and he is incredibly gentle with his people.

Baxter doesn’t need to climb all over you to feel loved. He’s perfectly happy sitting sweetly beside you, soaking up the affection and simply enjoying being close to his person.

And yes… our handsome boy is a little bit of a ladies’ man when it comes to his doggie friends. 😂💕 He especially loves the girls, although he can do well with male dogs too with proper introductions.

But Baxter’s story hasn’t always looked this happy.

He once knew what it meant to be homeless.

Then someone chose him.

For a little while, Baxter knew what it felt like to have a family and believe he was finally HOME.

Sadly, after a family separation, he was returned to rescue.

And Baxter had to begin waiting all over again 💔

Yet somehow…

He never stopped smiling.

He never stopped trusting.

He never stopped loving people.

He never stopped enjoying the little things — a beach day, a game of chase, his favorite blankie, a good treat or simply sitting beside someone who loves him.

And that may be what breaks our hearts the most.

Baxter has already spent far too much of his life waiting.

How many more beach trips will he take without his forever family?

How many more nights will he curl up with his blankie without knowing which home will finally be his?

How many more birthdays will pass before someone chooses Baxter and never gives him back? 🥺💔

This is why Pit Bull Awareness Month matters.

Because Baxter isn’t a stereotype.

He isn’t a label.

He isn’t “just another Bully mix.”

He is Baxter.

A beach-loving boy 🌊
A champion tug-of-war player 😂
A toy and blankie enthusiast 🧸
A treat connoisseur
A gentle companion
A loyal friend
And one of the happiest, sweetest boys you could ever have sitting beside you

He has spent long enough wondering when it will finally be his turn.

🐾💙 $2 TUESDAY — TUXI & TINKER NEED A LITTLE HELP THIS WEEK 💙🐾

They are scheduled for their full vetting this Thursday, and we need to raise $148 each — $296 total.

One of our amazing directors, who is also one of our cat fosters, usually covers this herself. She works two jobs, attends college, raises her children, and still helps get 4–6 cats vetted every month out of her own pocket.

But this week she simply does not have the extra funds to cover it alone, and we need some help ❤️

Just a few weeks ago, Feline Calicivirus spread through new kittens in her care that were dumped. She spent days providing around-the-clock care, making vet trips to Cuero and getting very little sleep. By God’s grace, they all recovered, but it depleted many of our medical supplies too 🙏

And as of today, we have already paid $2,088 in vet bills for our rescue doggies in just the past week. It is so much for our small rescue to carry.

That is why just $2 today would make an incredible difference. If enough people donated only $2, Tuxi and Tinker’s vetting could be completely covered without one person having to carry the entire burden.

🚨🐾 FOUND DOG — QUAIL CREEK SUBDIVISION, VICTORIA, TX 🐾🚨

Do you recognize me? 🥺❤️

This very sweet girl showed up at a home in the Quail Creek subdivision in Victoria yesterday 10/12/26.

She was initially very timid, but once she felt safe, she was extremely friendly and loving with absolutely no aggression shown.

Her finder has already:
✅ Posted in the neighborhood Facebook group
✅ Taken her to Victoria Veterinary Clinic off Highway 59 to be scanned for a microchip
❌ Unfortunately, no microchip was found

So far, no one has come forward saying they recognize her. Her finder is unable to keep her for very long, so we are trying to help get her photo circulated quickly in hopes that her family sees her.

💔 At this time, we do not have the space or funding to take on another intake or provide her care ourselves. We are already stretched beyond what we can reasonably handle, and it is heartbreaking when another sweet animal needs somewhere safe to go.

🐾 If you are one of our rescue partners and have space to help this sweet girl, please message us ASAP. Her finder cannot hold her indefinitely, and we would love to help get a safe plan in place for her if her family is not located.

WHAT IS GOING ON VICTORIA, TEXAS 😭🤯

🚨🐾 DO YOU RECOGNIZE THIS BABY? 🐾🚨

This poor girl was found at the Speedy Stop near Mockingbird and John Stoubaur in Victoria, TX.

She is very skittish and scared, and when someone tried to approach her, she ran across the road toward the nursing home. Thankfully, the finder was able to give her some of their lunch.

What is especially concerning is how extremely underweight she appears. Her backbone and hip bones are very visible, and she looks like she has been struggling for quite some time 💔

We are sharing in hopes that someone recognizes her, knows where she belongs, or may know something about her history.

🙏 Please do not chase her if you see her. A frightened dog can easily run into traffic or move farther away.

We are so incredibly thankful to share that Tama Sloat is going to pick this sweet baby up tomorrow and help him 🙏

Tama and her husband Mark Sloat help so many animals throughout our community, often using their own personal funds to provide food, medical care, safety, and eventually help them find loving forever homes. They already have so much on their plates, but when this baby needed someone, they said YES ❤️

We truly cannot thank them enough for stepping up when we simply did not have the space or resources to take on another intake.

This sweet dog was reportedly dumped at the Speedy Stop in Victoria, Texas, and the finder is unable to keep him.

Does anyone recognize this baby? Do you know who he belongs to?

We wish we could say, “Bring him to us,” but right now we simply do not have the space or funding to take on another intake, and it is heartbreaking feeling so helpless when another animal needs somewhere safe to go.

Today alone, we have two rescue doggies at Main Street Animal Hospital receiving complete vetting, with one of them unfortunately heartworm positive 💔 We have only raised $25 for their medical care. We also have five other newest intakes still needing veterinary care, and because funding is so limited, we are having to get everyone taken care of little by little as we are able each week when we get our paychecks.

We are stretched beyond what we can reasonably handle, but we do not want this baby forgotten.

🐾💜 PIT BULL AWARENESS MONTH — RIPLEY, OUR LITTLE BOUNCY BEAN 💜🐾

October is Pit Bull Awareness Month — a time for education, responsible ownership and reminding people to know the individual dog, not judge them by appearance or a label.

Meet Ripley, “Rip” our 3-year-old, 40-pound Staffordshire Terrier Mix who has been with Paws4Christ since May 18, 2024 💗

We lovingly call her our “little bouncy bean” because when she gets excited, she bounces around in the cutest way 😂❤️

But the happy girl you see today has overcome more than most will ever know.

Ripley came to us after suffering severe physical and sexual abuse. We were also told she had been locked in a bathroom for as long as two weeks at a time without food or water.

That history helps explain why food and resources became such a source of fear for her.

When Ripley arrived, she had significant food aggression and resource guarding, along with fear and distrust from everything she had endured. It took more than six months of patience, consistency and love for her to fully trust us.

She still must be fed separately from other animals, but her progress has been incredible. Today she can calmly accept treats around other dogs without concern — something that once would have been extremely difficult for her ❤️

Today she is goofy, affectionate, playful, loyal and full of personality. She loves her toys, running outside and bouncing around like our little bean.

Because of her history and her need for continued structure around food and resources, we believe Ripley would probably do best as the only pet in the home, where she can finally have her people and her space all to herself.

But we want everyone to know this too:

Ripley does not have a deadline here 💕

Sadly, shelters and rescues across the country are overwhelmed, and some animals lose their lives simply because space runs out or because they have waited too long while more dogs continue coming in 😢

That will not happen to Ripley with us.

She is not “taking up space” in our eyes. She is a life we committed to, and until the right family comes along, she will always have a safe place and a home here with us.

💜 A LITTLE PIT BULL AWARENESS

“Pit bull” is often used as a broad label for a type of dog, and mixed-breed dogs are frequently labeled based mainly on appearance.

Without knowing a dog’s parentage or having DNA information, appearance alone cannot always tell us exactly what breeds make up that dog.

And even more importantly, a breed label does not tell you a dog’s personality, history or behavior.

Every dog deserves to be evaluated as an individual.

Ripley is listed as a Staffordshire Terrier mix, but what matters most to us is who she is.

A survivor.
A heartworm treatment graduate.
A goofy little bouncy bean.
A girl who learned how to trust again.

After more than two years in rescue, we would love to see her find that special person who understands her past and is willing to give her the peaceful, secure home she deserves.

And until then, she will always be loved right here with us ❤️🐾

Ripley absolutely LOVES getting a new toy, soft blanket or cozy bed. It is a huge event in her world — she gets so excited and proud of anything that is just for her 🥹🐾
