Callie’s Giving Heart Foundation The Ruffer Family knows the heartache and stress that comes with having a child born with Congenital Heart Defects (CHD). with CHD. THE MISSION

Inspired by Callie’s life and legacy, we serve families facing child loss, honor the lives of children gone too soon, help families heal hearts and carry forward the legacy of the children who changed them forever. Their daughter Callie was one of 40,000 babies born each year in the U.S. It’s one of the most common causes of birth defect-related infant deaths. Callie’s CHD, Hypoplastic Left Heart

Syndrome, was diagnosed in 2018. Many surgeries and hospital stays would follow over the next 3 years. So would a growing pile of medical, travel, lodging, food and other expenses. Sadly, Callie’s battle came to an end in 2021 at just 3 years old. But there’s more to Callie’s story. Inspired by their daughter’s brave battle, her big-hearted love and a strong desire to help other CHD families facing similar situations to their own, Callie’s Giving Heart Foundation was born. Assist families financially, many that have one or both parents on unpaid leave, to defray
expenses to allow them to remain together during hospitalizations and treatments.
2. Provide ongoing funding for research to both local and national heart organizations.
3. Raise awareness of CHD by funding media campaigns and fund-raising events.

Callie’s Giving Heart Foundation is honored to offer a scholarship supporting local students who have experienced the loss of a loved one and are continuing forward with courage, resilience, and hope.

We know life can be heavy and healing journeys look different for everyone. Because of that, we are extending the application deadline to give students a little more time to share their story.

🗓️ New Deadline: May 15th at Midnight
📍 Open to eligible seniors from Versailles High School and Russia High School

This scholarship honors the memory of loved ones gone too soon and recognizes students who are carrying their legacy forward through education and perseverance.

💙A scholarship created from love, resilience, and remembrance.

As part of the new direction for Callie’s Giving Heart Foundation, we are proud to introduce our revamped Callie’s Giving Heart Scholarship, thoughtfully aligned with our renewed mission of walking alongside families who have experienced the loss of a child or loved one.

This year, two $1,500 scholarships will be awarded to graduating seniors from Versailles High School or Russia High School who have experienced the loss of a loved one and are continuing forward with courage, strength, and purpose.

Loss changes us. It reshapes our perspective, deepens our compassion, and often inspires the path we choose in life. This scholarship was created to honor students who carry the memory of someone they love with them as they pursue their education and future dreams.

We hope this scholarship serves as a reminder that their loved one’s legacy lives on in the way they continue forward and impact the world around them.

Eligibility:
• Graduating senior from Versailles High School or Russia High School
• Has experienced the loss of a parent, sibling, or another significant loved one
• Plans to continue their education

Application Requirements:
1️⃣ Complete the application form
2️⃣ Write a 500+ word essay sharing how the loss of your loved one has shaped your perspective, goals, or future path, and how you plan to carry their memory forward
3️⃣ Submit one letter of recommendation

Something new is blooming for Callie’s Giving Heart. 💙

Over the last few months, we’ve spent time reflecting on Callie’s legacy and the ways we feel called to serve families in our community. From those conversations, prayers, and quiet moments of reflection, a new direction has emerged.

Today we’re excited to share the first glimpse of that change: our brand new logo, updated profile picture, and brand new website. This new look reflects the heart of our mission: love that endures, light in the darkest moments, and a community that walks alongside families through unimaginable loss.

Along with our new look comes a renewed mission and vision for how we will support families facing end-of-life care and child loss. We cannot wait to share more about what’s ahead and the ways we hope to bring comfort, connection, and remembrance to the families we serve.

Callie’s story continues to guide everything we do, and we feel incredibly grateful to carry her legacy forward in this next chapter.
