Those who have been to the Heritage Center may notice that the historic Springville Mill bell in front of the stable has gotten an upgrade. The old mounting base (at right) has been replaced with a sturdier version. A new concrete pad and foundation ensures many more years of safe bell ringing. Manufactured in New York, for many years the bell topped Rockville’s Springville Mill. In the 1960s, Bernice and Peter Darico added to their bell collection by installing the circa-1880 bell on the hillside overlooking the farm. Come check out the bell and the many other historic items found on the property this Sunday, June 28. The Heritage Center and Museum is open 1-4 pm, with a guided tour at 2 pm. Free admission; located at 345 Valley Falls Road.

Self tours of the museum buildings throughout the afternoon, with a guided tour at 2 pm. Free admission, park at the red barn, 345 Valley Falls Road or walk up from the park.

Rick Murray of Jukebox Repairman was at the stable recently to fine-tune the vintage jukebox that is part of the history of the Heritage Center. The Darico family, owners of the farm before selling it to the Friends of Valley Falls in 2001, grew up on the property and enjoyed having parties in the stable. Members of the police and fire departments were often at these parties, and the jukebox provided plenty of lively music. When the Heritage Center buildings are open, you can often hear the jukebox playing records from the ’50s, and all the way up to the ’80s.

These dusty red blooms provide a bit of color in front of the stable at Valley Falls Farm and Heritage Center. The stable includes three stalls and each one contains found items, photos and story boards that tell the story of three families that once lived on this gentleman’s farm: Munchow, Beach, and the Darico families.
