Teen Art Camp will be held at Grouchy Hyena and will run as a block schedule, incorporating higher level art instruction and peer critiques.

The Vermillion Area Community Foundation was established in 2000 for the sole purpose of creating an endowed fund to build financial resources, that aren’t depleted each year and are forever and perpetual, to assist with capital projects that address community needs and that impact and enhance the quality of community life for residents of all ages. The Vermillion Area Community Foundation funds projects that improve the quality of life in the Vermillion area and have a positive impact on our community. They award approximately $20,000 annually over the course of up to two grant cycles to local organizations.

Michelle and Grant Riedel are met in art class at college and are currently art educators in the Vermillion School District. They also opened Lunchbox Studios in Vermillion, SD as a venue for community connection and creativity. They recently held their own Kid’s Clay Camp (pictured). Their teaching experience and beautiful venue are an exciting addition to this year’s camp!!

Dylan creates fantasy art and other illustrations that use his voice and truth to empower you to speak yours. He believes that we can reshape ourselves through advocacy, truth, and challenging ideas like good and evil. When he set out in comics, he learned how accessible comics were as an art and form for expression. His teaching work with simple storytelling and illustration tools helps lift voices and explore imaginations.

Michele David Mechling is a teaching/visual artist living and working in Vermillion, SD. As a studio artist, her work includes printmaking, painting, and mosaics. As an educator, she teaches her art processes to students of all ages and abilities through grant-funded and local programs, arts and health initiatives, artist residencies in schools and communities, and community-based workshops.

First up - Jessica Hammond / Brutal Doodles! https://www.brutaldoodlesart.com/

Brutal Doodles (Jessica Hammond) is an artist, musician, and community organizer from Sioux City, Iowa. From large scale murals, to intricate illustrations, to live painting performances, her work depicts fantastical characters, magical adventures, and other worldly scenery. Part of her time at Messy Hands will include designing a mural with the campers to be added to the VCA’s Mural Wall in future months.
