It doesn’t provide money to replace the property tax revenue local governments would lose, and it doesn’t add new limits on how they can raise rates or fees.

Those decisions would be made in local budgets after the vote, whether that means cutting spending, raising rates or fees, or some of each.

𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝟔𝟎% 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐧 𝐍𝐨𝐯. 𝟑? 🗳️

Amendment 3 needs 60% of the vote to pass. If it does, changing it later would take another statewide vote with 60% approval.

The property tax conversation will continue either way. Florida’s Taxation and Budget Reform Commission convenes in 2027 to review the tax system and propose changes to voters.

A North Port home with a $250,000 taxable value pays about $942 a year in city property taxes. That money helps fund police, fire rescue, parks, public works, and social services.

Amendment 3 (Increased Homestead Exemption; Lower Cap on Increases in Non-Homestead Property Assessments) is on the Nov. 3 ballot.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐀𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝟑 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐒𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐭𝐚, 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐨𝐭𝐭𝐞, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐃𝐞𝐒𝐨𝐭𝐨 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬? There's two things to know:

🔹For homeowners: The homestead exemption on non-school property taxes would rise from about $50,000 to $250,000 by 2028.

🔹For local governments: By 2031-32, state economists estimate property tax revenue (not including schools) would be lower each year by about $207 million in Sarasota County, $127 million in Charlotte County, and $9 million in DeSoto County.
