SENIOR SPOTLIGHT!

Next, our retired chapter Treasurer, Mason Kraft!

1. What made you join FFA?

~I joined FFA because I was involved in 4-H when I was younger and was involved with agriculture already helping on the farm. I was also influenced by my dad and brother who were both involved in the FFA already.

2. What were you involved in throughout your FFA years?

~I have been involved in multiple events in FFA as well as positions and just helping out in general. The CDE’s that I was involved with were Agronomy, Ag Sales, Meats Evaluation, Farm Business Management, and Nursery/Landscaping. I also participated in Greenhand quiz, advanced quiz, and was on the parliamentary procedure team. I tried to do as much volunteering as I could while in the FFA. I was also the chapter Student Advisor and the chapter Treasurer.

3. What is your favorite FFA memory?

~Our officer retreat this past year. We went up to Lake Metigoshe and I had to help cook breakfast for everyone. It was also fun because me and Bryson put crawfish in the girls room.

4. What are your future plans?

~I plan on attending Lake Region State College to pursue a degree in Business Management while also playing baseball.

5. What is your advice for younger FFA members?

~Get involved, stay involved, and try your hardest no matter what someone else says. You won’t have as many regrets if you know you gave it your all.

Next up, our retired chapter President, Laykin Feller!

1. What made you join FFA?

~I joined FFA because a few of the older members encouraged me to try something new!

2. What were you involved in throughout your FFA years?

~Throughout my time in FFA, I have participated in several contests. These include Agronomy, Meats Evaluation and Technology, Small Animal Care, Quiz, Agriscience Fair, and Agricultural Communications. I have also had the opportunity to serve the Velva FFA Officer Team as the Parliamentarian (2023-2024), Historian (2024-2025), and President (2025-2026). I’ve been involved in many chapter activities and community service events as well.

3. What is your favorite FFA memory?

~My favorite FFA memory was Agronomy practice/contests with Lyla, Rose, Evi, and Kaitlyn!!

4. What are your future plans?

~I am attending the University of North Dakota this fall to major in Public Health while pursuing a pre-med pathway. I then plan to attend medical school in Maryland!

5. What is your advice for younger FFA members?

~If I could give any piece of advice to a new FFA member, it would be to push yourself beyond your comfort zone and don’t be afraid to fail. The challenges that pushed me most were also the moments that taught me the most.

In honor of the last week of school, we are going to recognize some of our senior members with our FFA Senior Spotlights! First up, our retired chapter Secretary, Bailey Kroeplin!

1. What made you join FFA?

~ I joined FFA because my parents told me to and it was the best thing they could have done for me.

2. What were you involved in throughout your FFA years?

~ Through my years in FFA, I have competed in Small Animal Care, Environmental & Natural Resources, Livestock Judging, Parliamentary Procedure, Advanced Quiz, Dairy Cattle Judging, and Milk Quality & Products. I took advantage of every volunteering opportunity I could and participated in almost every chapter activity. In addition to this, I also served as our Chapter Historian (2024-2025) and Secretary (2025-2026).

3. What is your favorite FFA memory?

~ My favorite FFA memory is our chapter officer retreat at the lake cabin where Bryson chased people with fish and crawfish, and when we got to go out on the boat tubing.

4. What are your future plans?

~ After high school, I am attending the University of Mary to major in Biomechanics then continue there to get my Doctor of Physical Therapy degree.

5. What is your advice for younger FFA members?

~ My advice for younger members is to take every opportunity that is available to you because if you don’t, you might be missing out on an amazing learning opportunity and a once in a lifetime adventure. All of the chances that FFA gave me have shaped me into the person that I am today.

Thank you to everyone who came out for the annual Velva FFA Chapter Banquet!

It was a wonderful evening recognizing our members for their accomplishments over this past year. Maria Effertz was named our Honorary Chapter Degree recipient, and we were joined by both State FFA Reporter, Evelyn Seil and State FFA Treasurer, Rose Schiele as guest speakers!

We also held a successful silent auction and labor auction to help raise money for our members attending Washington Leadership Conference this summer.

Congratulations to our members on another successful and fulfilling year! Thank you to parents and community members for your continuous support of the FFA chapter and Velva Ag program. You help create opportunities that make it possible for our members to grow!
