📅 Less than a week away from the scholarship deadline!

Be sure to check out this amazing opportunity and submit your applications!🌾

The Tioga County Farm Bureau is excited to announce a scholarship for graduating high school seniors and undergraduates in college. This scholarship is near and dear to our hearts as Charles Truman was a beloved board member of our Farm Bureau at the time of his passing. Charles was never shy to help, as demonstrated through his continuous involvement in the Tioga County Agricultural Society and Tioga County Fair.

He was an avid supporter of all agricultural youth in Tioga County and beyond. He truly believed the future of agriculture rests in the youth of our communities. In his honor, we are pleased to offer this scholarship in the hope that more people will be like Charles and invest in the future of agriculture.

🌾Our next Board Member to be highlighted is our President, Cub Frisbie.🌾

Cub has been involved in the agricultural industry for his whole life, starting with growing up on his family’s dairy farm. His passion for agriculture went beyond just the farm as he achieved an agricultural business degree from Alfred State. He is proud to have had the opportunity to be a full-time farmer for the past 51 years and plans to continue in this profession.

In addition to Farm Bureau, Cub works as a nutrition consultant, grows crops to sell to neighboring farms, and is a Seedway Dealer. As of recently, he has also entered the beef business, focusing on raising quality beef for consumers.

As the President, Cub has taken on several hats to ensure the farmers of Tioga County are respected and protected. This includes attending several meetings each week, countless trips to the State Capitol in Albany, and meeting with farmers to ensure every voice is heard. We are so very appreciative of his dedication to the industry, and we hope many can learn from him!

Recently, Tioga County Farm Bureau was represented at the New York Young Farmers and Ranchers Conference by Kathryn Donnelly-Taylor and Cristina Earley (Alfred State College). This event offered advice to members on succession planning, the current policy initiatives on the table, and interactive farm tours hosted by local operations. It was an amazing opportunity to network and learn from both industry professionals and other agriculturalists about common challenges faced by the younger and upcoming generations involved in agriculture.

Thank you, New York Farm Bureau, for organizing this event and for all of the work that you do with our young farmers and ranchers!

The future of our food systems, sustainability, and world rests in the hands of our youth. By investing in their knowledge about the vast opportunities in agriculture, we are more likely as a society to have security for the future. Whether that job is in finance, livestock production, policy, plant systems, or more, they are all making a meaningful contribution to our industry and to the world.

It would mean a lot to every student for your business's support at the Owego FFA's upcoming career fair, focusing on careers rooted in agriculture. If you aren't sure if your business falls under the agriculture umbrella, which it most likely does, please reach out to Derek Hill or Susan Armstrong.

Do you work for an agricultural based business or know someone who does? If so, we have the perfect event to grow your industry!
If you're interested we are hosting an Agriculture Career Fair on 4/22 at OFA.

The Tioga County Farm Bureau is proud to highlight member Derek Hill!

Derek lives in Candor, New York with his wife, Melissa, and their two sons, Mason and Colton. Together, they own and operate a beef farm where they raise Lowline Angus cattle, instilling a strong work ethic and passion for agriculture in their family every day.

In addition to farming, Derek serves as the Animal Science Teacher at Broome-Tioga BOCES (Owego site), where he educates and mentors the next generation of agricultural leaders. He also proudly serves as one of the advisors for the Owego FFA chapter, helping students grow in leadership, personal development, and career success through agricultural education.

A dedicated advocate for agriculture, Derek has been a member of Farm Bureau for over a decade and currently serves as the Treasurer for the Tioga County Farm Bureau. His commitment to farming, education, and community leadership exemplifies the strength and future of agriculture in Tioga County.

Thank you, Derek, for your continued dedication to Farm Bureau and our agricultural community!

To start off our board member introductions, we are highlighting our Pro-Education Chair: Michele Kline

Michele is a key leader in many facets of youth agriculture, and we could not have picked a better time to highlight her accomplishments, as she is a recent inductee to the New York FFA Hall of Fame for her work. During her time in the Greenville FFA chapter, she participated in many leadership roles, including as an FFA State Officer for New York. In addition to FFA, she was also an active member in 4-H and grew up on a hobby farm in Greene County. As a young adult, she continued working in agriculture with horticulture and equine, as well as in the New York State Senate in Albany. Her love for agriculture continued to grow as she completed a Bachelor's of Agriculture Business at SUNY Cobleskill and her Master's of Agriculture Teaching from Cornell University.

As an educator, she worked at TST-New Visions, heading up their agriculture program for high school students. Her current role in agriculture is her position as owner/operator of Nellie’s Knoll Creamery and Our Five Acre Homestead in Berkshire, New York. Here, she processes and sells award-winning goat cheese, Kefir, yogurt, bottled milk, caramel, and fudge, all produced from her herd of about 45 dairy goats. Her love for animal agriculture goes beyond just her goats, as she and her husband also own a flock of pastured poultry and a handful of heritage pigs.

We are incredibly grateful to have Michele as a part of our board and a representative for agriculture. With her hard work in and out of the classroom, she has inspired many to continue their agricultural pursuits, which is one of the most vital aspects of our industry.

Our youth are so very vital to our industry, which makes National FFA Week a perfect time to highlight the incredible work they have done. The National FFA Organization serves as a professional and career development organization for youth interested in and passionate about agriculture.

Tioga County is proud to have five active FFA chapters filled with enthusiastic youth, and it has been our privilege to facilitate their professional development by bringing them to Taste of New York, sponsoring official dress jackets, helping them fundraise at the county fair, and more. We are thrilled to have so many FFA members interested in being involved with their local Farm Bureau and other agriculture organizations. It is never too early to become involved!

As the weather is expected to warm up in the coming weeks, we are excited to see these FFA chapters' progress flourish. Keep up the great work, FFA!
