Welcome Home to our new use Fire Engine at the Urbana Rural Fire Department!!! It’s been over 20 years since the Urbana Rural Fire Department has gotten a newer Fire Engine. We look forward to getting this truck put into service and bettering the fire coverage for our community. This 1999 Pierce Fire Engine will soon take place as our frontline engine at our station 1. It is taking the place of our current 1984 Pierce Fire Engine. We want to thank Gibraltar Fire Department in WI for working with us and making this possible. We would also like to thank our community and supporters of our fire department, none of this would be possible without them. We look forward to growing with our community and growing our support from the community. Thank you everyone!!!

Never Forget the 2,977 lives lost during this tragedy. 343 of those lives were firefighters that paid the ultimate price. We thank everyone that served on that day.

Today, we remember the 2,977 lives lost on September 11, 2001, and honor the courage and sacrifice of the first responders who ran toward danger when others were running away.

We remember the firefighters, police officers, EMTs, and countless civilians who made the ultimate sacrifice. Their bravery, service, and selflessness will never be forgotten.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget.

Press Release:

On 09/09/2026 at 20:19, the Urbana Rural Fire Department was dispatched to the Coffee Cup Cafe after operating hours for an outside fire.

@ 20:27 Units arrived on scene with an Engine and a Brush truck. They made contact with a Dallas County Deputy that had already assisted containing the fire outside the building and gaining access to the interior of the building. The deputy and fire crew noted smoke on the inside of the building. The crew was able to open up a part of the wall to find that there was active fire within the wall. They opened the wall up more and quickly extinguished the fire.

The cause of this fire is ultimately undetermined. It started in a wooden flower container outside against the front of the building and with the high heat transferring through the metal of the building, it caused an interior wall fire.

While our fire department was already responding and working the this fire there was another call for a fire in a different location that ended up being a false alarm. This had valuable resources tied up leaving this incident with minimal amount of resources. Excellent work by the crews on scene at this fire, and huge Thanks to the following departments that responded and helped with one or both incidents. Tunas Volunteer Fire Department, Pittsburg Fire Department, Preston Fire Department, Central Hickory Fire and Rescue, Mercy EMS, and Dallas County Sheriff’s Office.

Urbana Rural Fire Department has concerns, not only about the extreme heat we have been experiencing, but also Fire Danger. There hasn’t been as much advertising on Red Flag warnings lately, but they are in effect. With the extreme heat and low humidity at 25%, we are in significant fire danger. Our area is extremely dry, causing a increase in fuel for these fires. The Urbana Rural Fire Department and neighboring departments are starting to see increases in our calls for out of control burns. We’ve had at least 4 fires in the past week. The Urbana Rural Fire Department is asking that everyone put their burning on hold, at least until we get sufficient rainfall and things start to green up again. We don’t want you or your neighbor to lose their home to an out of control fire. Thank you.

Urbana Community be cautious when working outdoors during these heat advisories. Drinking plenty of water and drink something with good electrolytes. Water is good but too much water and not enough electrolytes can flush a lot of your electrolytes out. Electrolyte deficiency can cause a number of different symptoms, ranging from heat cramps to cardiac issues. It’s also important to limit your exposure to the heat. You might be hydrated well, but heat exposure can still affect you and cause heat exhaustion or stroke. Be mindful of your limitation in the heat, it’s good to take breaks and cool yourself down.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends who lost someone today in that horrific accident on 65 Hwy just north of Louisburg. Prayers also go out to the First Responders that worked that incident. It’s not an easy job at times, just rest easy knowing that you left your best out there trying to help others. A few of our Urbana Firefighters wanted to extend their thanks and gratitude for the folks that stopped to check on them, while they were standing in the hot sun, on hot pavement managing traffic. Some of them even went and retrieved some cold water and brought it back to them. Absolutely fantastic work Urbana Community! That’s what it means to be apart of a community. So, thank you guys for looking out for our responders!
