The conversation around youth mental health starts with awareness, but it continues with action.

For many young people, art provides a space to slow down, express themselves, build confidence, and connect with others. Creative communities can help youth feel seen, supported, and empowered.

While art isn't a replacement for professional mental health care, it can be a powerful tool for self-expression, stress relief, and building real-world skills. Creative spaces give young people opportunities to explore their emotions in a healthy way, develop coping skills, and find community.

This Mental Health Awareness Month, we're celebrating the impact that creativity and community can have on young lives. 💚

A huge thank you to the Scottsdale Charros for awarding The Walter Hive a $3,000 grant to support accessible arts programming in our community 💙

Because of support like this, we’re able to provide creative opportunities for underserved groups, from Girl Scouts exploring woodworking to cancer survivors and supporters crafting together in community.

We’re so grateful for partners who believe in the power of the arts and help make this work possible!

Welding and woodworking are the best girl hobbies of 2026 🔥🛠️

We were so excited to partner with to help scouts earn badges through hands-on industrial arts workshops with The Hive! Thank you to everyone who came out last month to learn welding and woodworking with us 💙

There’s something powerful about learning how to build with your own hands, try new skills, and step into creative spaces that aren’t always marketed toward young women ⚡️

We work with youth all across Arizona to teach career readiness through industrial arts, fine arts, and photography workshops. Interested in partnering with us for a future workshop or youth program? Reach out — we’d love to create with you.

Volunteer Spotlight 🐝✨

Lani has been passionate about serving with The Walter Hive and has been a great addition! The Hive wouldn’t be what it is without the incredible people who give their time, creativity, and energy to this community. We’re so grateful for volunteers who help keep art accessible, welcoming, and healing for everyone.

We had such a great time creating with the team from Tempe Community Action Agency during their Volunteer Appreciation event 🫶

Thank you for inviting us out to lead a leather keychain workshop and spend the day celebrating the people who give so much back to the community.

Some of our favorite memories from Third Friday this season 🫶✨

Come out for our final one before summer break! We’re excited to welcome back to the stage and celebrate .art’s closing showcase for “The Order in the Chaos,” on view in the Walter Art Gallery.

Third Friday has always been about bringing people together: good music, local art, creative energy, and a space where everyone can feel welcome. Whether you’ve been with us all season or this will be your first time stopping by, we’d love to spend one more evening with the community before we take a summer pause.

This event is free and open to everyone, so grab your friends, explore the gallery, support local artists and makers, and start your summer off with good vibes ✨ We’ll see you back in September for another season of Third Fridays!

We were excited to host Pensar Academy for their final welding workshop of the school year!

These talented students explored the full creative process by using design software, plasma cutters, and welding equipment to create a unique metal art piece representing their school group. From concept to creation, they stepped into the shop ready to learn, experiment, and challenge themselves in new ways.

We want to give a huge congratulations to this incredible group of students — some of whom we’ve had the privilege of working with for many years at Pensar Academy. Watching their skills, creativity, and confidence grow over time has been truly inspiring.

We are so proud of each student who showed up, worked hard, and created something outside of their comfort zone. Congratulations on finishing this chapter, and best of luck as you head into high school!
