⚓️ Ship 1908 Takes on the Finger Lakes! ⛵️

This weekend, the Scouts of Sea Scout Ship 1908 – Rising Phoenix hit the water at Camp Barton in New York’s beautiful Finger Lakes for an incredible weekend of sailing through the Helmsman Program!

Our Scouts had the opportunity to build their sailing and seamanship skills, gain confidence at the helm, work together as a crew, and—most importantly—enjoy an unforgettable weekend on the water!

A huge THANK YOU to our good friend Jim Graney of Sea Scout Ship 25 for helping us coordinate this amazing opportunity for our Scouts. We are incredibly grateful for your friendship and continued support of the Sea Scout program!

This week we have been working on our skills training! Thank you to Dr. Guzman who has been running Zoom sessions on Navigation and Weather (and tech guru Ben!), Henry and Alexa for teaching Turks head and monkeys fist, and skipper who taught the SEAL knot challenge! Teamwork makes the dream work and we are blessed to have been able to put together a Nautical Skills week with training by young Sea Scouts and OLD SALTS!

⚓🇺🇸 A Day Aboard America’s Tall Ship 🇺🇸⚓

Today, the youth and adult leaders of Sea Scout Ship 1908 – SSS Rising Phoenix had the tremendous honor of visiting the USCGC Eagle, the United States Coast Guard’s majestic training barque, during Sail4th.

Stepping aboard this legendary vessel was an unforgettable experience and a powerful reminder of the rich maritime traditions that continue to inspire the next generation of leaders and mariners. From her towering masts and intricate rigging to her remarkable history of training future Coast Guard officers, the Eagle stands as a symbol of discipline, service, excellence, and seamanship.

Our sincere gratitude goes to the officers and crew of the USCGC Eagle for their warm hospitality and for taking the time to share their ship, their mission, and their passion for maritime service with our Scouts.

Experiences like these strengthen our commitment to leadership, adventure, and service on the water while inspiring our youth to continue pursuing excellence in the maritime community.

A very special thank you to the Italian Consulate and the Marina Militare for arranging an unforgettable visit aboard the legendary training ship Amerigo Vespucci, affectionately regarded by the U.S. Navy as “the most beautiful ship in the world.” It was truly inspiring to experience firsthand one of the world’s greatest ambassadors of seamanship, naval excellence, and Italian culture.

⚓️🇺🇸 Ship 1908 Rising Phoenix at Sail4th 250! 🇺🇸⚓️

What an incredible day on the Jersey City waterfront as the youth and leaders of Sea Scout Ship 1908 – SSS Rising Phoenix experienced the spectacular Sail4th 250 Parade of Sail! We had an absolute blast watching the magnificent tall ships from around the world sail through New York Harbor in celebration of America’s 250th Anniversary. The event brought together historic sailing vessels and naval traditions from across the globe in a once-in-a-generation maritime celebration. (Sail4th 250⁠)

For Sea Scouts, there is nothing quite like seeing these majestic ships under sail. It was an inspiring reminder of the rich traditions of seamanship, leadership, international friendship, and adventure that continue to define the maritime world.

Thank you to everyone who made today so memorable. Fair winds and following seas—we can’t wait for our next adventure!
