As part of our year-long study of Africa, a parent and uncle visited our 4th grade classroom to share traditional African toy-making techniques. Students created drums and dolls using recycled materials while learning how children in some African villages use natural and repurposed materials such as sheepskin, sticks, fabric scraps, and string, to make their own toys and instruments.
Our 4th graders also learned a traditional song from Senegal, making this a memorable hands-on cultural experience that brought their studies to life. May Allah reward our Upper El Parents!
