We need you to help make our Special Olympics Golf Qualifier a success! Join us on Friday, July 31st at Oak Brook Golf Course in Edwardsville.

We are looking for volunteers to assist with scoring, course support, skills and awards. No golf experience is necessary, just a positive attitude and willing to help!

ATHLETE SPOTLIGHT!!

Introducing Kennedy Elbe!

Kennedy has competed in Special Olympics Illinois since 2018. She loves the many sports she has participated in, including swimming, golfing, tennis, softball, bowling, cheerleading, basketball, and flag football. Kennedy is also a part of Athlete Leadership and the Volunteer Training Video Team.
One of her favorite experiences with the Special Olympics was competing in the 2023 World Games in Berlin, Germany, as part of the Special Olympics International Cheer Team. Some of her favorite teams are the Cleveland Browns, the Cardinals, the Blues, and the Battlehawks. Kennedy also recently graduated from Athlete Leadership University in Bloomington at this past weekend's Summer Games!

!!ATHLETE SPOTLIGHT!!

Introducing Ava Lutz! Ava has been competing in Special Olympics Illinois for 4 years! She loves to compete in basketball, swimming, tennis, bowling, and volleyball. Ava loves all of the competitions at the Summer Games and enjoys the drone show each year. She loves the New York Mets, the Cardinals, and the Blues. Some of Ava's favorite hobbies are reading, coloring, and drawing.

!!ATHLETE SPOTLIGHT!!

Grace has been competing in the Special Olympics for 2 years, where she has participated in cheerleading. This past spring, she was a part of the Without Limits Special Olympics national champion cheer team in Orlando, Florida, at the 2026 ICU World Cheerleading Championships.

One of Grace's favorite events was the inaugural Southern Plane Pull at MidAmerica St. Louis Airport in May of 2025, where she got to participate on a team to pull an aircraft jet as quickly as possible. She also stays busy outside of Special Olympics, being the Wesclin High School volleyball team manager, participating in the Wesclin chorus and band, and being a part of the youth group LifeTeen at St. George in New Baden.

Introducing Amy Schwoebel!

Amy has been competing in Special Olympics Illinois for 10 years! She loves competing in golf, swimming, bowling, cheer, basketball, softball, and bocce ball. Amy loves going to the Summer Games, having gone four times. She was also a cheerleading ambassador at the 2023 World Games in Berlin, Germany. Amy's favorite professional teams are the New York Giants, the Cardinals, and the St. Louis Blues. In her free time, she enjoys doing crafts, being part of a theatre group, walking her dogs, and going to the movies.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run is on its way and making is journey through communities across Illinois as we count down to Summer Games!! Join us in cheering on the dedicated Law Enforcement Officers, athletes and supporters who carry the Flame of Hope through our towns staring on Monday!

Be sure to watch for the torch and cheer them on as it passes through your community. Every step taken helps shine a light on the abilities and achievements of Special Olympics athletes
