Resilience Rising safety.healing.empowerment. Resilience Rising is in the process of becoming another one of these homes.

The sex trafficking of domestic minors is finally starting to appear in the news and subsequently resound on the conscience of the American public as well as lawmakers. Safe Harbor laws, recognizing these youth as victims of sexual abuse and exploitation instead of treating them as criminals, are slowly but surely being implemented into state laws. While all of this is progress for the cause, there are still very few safe places for these children to reside once they are rescued from their abusers. Most of the youth involved in the sex trade are runaways from abusive and neglectful homes of origin or already involved in the child welfare system. There are currently only a handful of therapeutic, residential programs in the entire country created specifically for this population. We are based in Colorado but can take youth from anywhere in the country. We have the capacity to house eight female youth and two small children to accommodate teenage mothers. You can learn more about our story and our program by visiting our website at www.resilience-rising.org.

September is National Yoga Month. Resilience Rising engages survivors in a variety of yoga formats: trauma-informed yoga, aerial yoga, animal yoga, and aqua yoga. For survivors of s*xual trauma, embodiment is an integral part of healing. Somatic interventions like yoga provide reintegration, enhancing skills of proprioception and interoception. The mindfulness of breath, stillness, and gentle movement activate the parasympathetic nervous system, allowing for calm, rest, a sense of body safety, and the strengthening of healthy neural pathways. Trauma-informed yoga builds incremental shifts to widen the window of tolerance and enhance emotion regulation.

Our volunteers have been hard at work getting this classroom ready for students! RR's new adult residential facility has an onsite classroom where residents take GED classes from our newly hired academic coaches. Education is an invaluable tool in breaking cycles of poverty and empowering survivors with options outside of exploitation. Help us complete our classroom with an item from our wishlist. โœ๏ธ ๐Ÿ“š ๐Ÿ’ช ๐Ÿ’œ

September 30th is National Women's Health & Fitness Day. Exercise has many physical and mental health benefits. Aerobic exercise releases dopamine in the brain, triggering the pleasure reward system. Exercise is an adaptive coping tool that helps youth self-regulate, expend energy, contain anxiety, and replace urges to engage in maladaptive behaviors like self-harm and substance use. As a psychosomatic intervention, exercise helps trauma survivors reintegrate the body-mind connection, ultimately allowing them to reclaim their body as a place of strength and power. RR youth engage in a number of athletic opportunities like hiking, biking, yoga, roller skating, ice skating, swimming, boxing, snowboarding, and standup paddleboarding.

No woman's life begins in prostitution. ๐Ÿ’œ

They begin somewhere else, often in childhoods marked by poverty, instability, abuse, or being in care. These early experiences don't determine anyone's future, but they compound over time, chipping away at safety and options, and leaving some women more exposed to exploitation than others.

This isn't about "choice" in any equal sense. It's about vulnerability and the people who exploit it.

At Ruhama, we support women to heal from that history and build a different future. Responsibility for exploitation sits with those who exploit, not with the women targeted by it.
