MCLEA is sadden by the loss of Detention Officer Hoffman. Please keep the family your prayers. RIP Brother!
This evening, I met with Eric, Emma, and the Hoffman family, and I wanted to provide a personal update.
There are moments in this job when words simply aren’t enough.
This afternoon, MCSO Detention Officer Anon Hoffman was killed in an off-duty motorcycle accident in Austin County, Texas. He was only 21 years old. I have known Anon’s mom and dad for a very long time. Eric and Emma are more than friends and colleagues to me; they are family. To lose Anon, such a great young man, breaks my heart.
As a father, I honestly don’t know how to help them through a loss like this. There are no words that can make this pain go away, and there is no way to prepare a parent for losing a child. I can only pray that, with time, God will help make the pain bearable.
As Sheriff, I am becoming more familiar with the pain that comes with losing members of our Sheriff’s Office family. It is an incredible weight to bear. Every loss affects us, and Anon’s loss will stay with us for a very long time.
Anon was a beloved member of our office, and I am incredibly proud of the service he gave to this community. He was part of our MCSO family, and he mattered to us. His loss will be felt deeply throughout our entire agency.
Please keep Anon’s shift mates and fellow detention officers in your prayers. This tragedy has left, and will continue to leave, a tremendous void in our office. They worked alongside Anon, supported him, and shared countless moments with him. Their grief is profound.
But today, I am speaking not only as Sheriff. I am speaking as a friend.
Eric and Emma, I want you to know that we loved Anon, and we dearly love your family. We grieve with you, and we will stand beside you through the days ahead.
I pray that God gives you, your family, and everyone who loved Anon the strength, comfort, and peace to move forward, even if it is only one step at a time. I pray He helps make this pain bearable as you face each day and that He grants Anon eternal peace.
Please continue to keep the Hoffman family, Anon’s shift mates, his fellow detention officers, our MCSO family, and everyone who loved Anon in your thoughts and prayers.
May God wrap His arms around the Hoffman family, grant Anon eternal peace, and give them strength and peace in the days ahead.
