They were given one task: build a house… without saying a word.

What looked like a simple challenge quickly turned into a lesson in patience, body language, and trust. Different ideas, no voices, and the pressure to still find a way to work together.

For many teens, this isn’t just an exercise—it’s real life. Being expected to follow direction, work with adults, and navigate situations where they feel unheard.
Today wasn’t just about building with magnets. It was about understanding that communication goes beyond words—and that every voice matters, even when it’s not spoken.

This weekend a few of our mentees and their families attended the Black Health Research Lab at the University of Maryland for their inaugural community convening “The Village Gathers: Centering Community Wisdom in Violence Prevention”.

A day filled with healing, reflection, and collaboration. Bridging the gap between youth and adults while working toward real solutions to reduce gun violence.

Thank you again, ✊🏾❤️

Session Seven: From the barber’s chair to life lessons.

💈 Today our mentees explored the barbering industry and the deeper impact of the barbershop in the Black community—hospitality, mentorship, entrepreneurship, investing, emotional intelligence, and conflict resolution. Building skills, confidence, and vision for the future.

We want to give a special thanks and shoutout to our good brothers and barbers over at Exclusive Grooming Barbershop for allowing us to stop by and for pouring into our young men. 🤝🏾💪🏾

Session Five: Who Are You? Part 2

Our young men had the chance to learn from a powerful guest speaker, Anthony Davis, Sr. , a basketball coach, educator, and author who challenged them to look within, understand their choices, and build a strong sense of identity.

They explored how mistakes shape us, how consequences teach us, and how their identity maps will grow as they do. No matter how life changes, knowing your core values keeps you grounded.

Thank you again, Coach AD!

Session One: Knowledge of Self- Core Values

Opening up important conversations at the first session of our 2025 fall mentoring program! We dove deep into defining masculinity, exploring what it means to be a man, and unpacking the difference between a boy and a man.

Our discussions also touched on what it means to be a Black man and how core values shape identity. It was an empowering start to a journey of self-reflection, growth, and mentorship. Excited for what’s ahead
