🌎 Earth Month was a big one for AZ StRUT!

This April, our community showed up in a major way. Here's a look at what we were up to:

♻️ Desert Garden Church of Christ collected 14,067 lbs of e-waste over two days with nearly 400 volunteers

⚙️ Our Chandler Mall Earth Day event brought in 5,629 lbs — plus a Refurbish-a-Thon that restored 67 Chromebooks

🗑️ A new e-waste drop-off bin is now live at Mesa Community College's library

💻 We provided 11 workstations for the new Walter Hive Digital Lab ribbon cutting in Scottsdale

🔧 We hosted our first-ever Hardware Techie Experience with St. Vincent de Paul

🤝 A huge thank you to NXP for volunteering AND awarding us a $3,000 grant

👋 Shoutout to our intern Jessica, who came in with zero tech experience and leaves with skills — and a plan to keep volunteering.

AZ StRUT is proud to have donated 11 workstations for the new Busy Bee Digital Media Lab inside the Walter Hive! 🐝💻

This exciting new space will help empower creativity, digital learning, and hands-on opportunities for the community.

A huge thank you to Scottsdale Leadership Class 40 for helping make this connection possible and for supporting initiatives that create real impact.

We love seeing refurbished technology given a second life in ways that inspire and uplift others. 💙♻️

Yesterday, our Executive Director, Jared Bodine, joined 12News to talk about why recycling your old electronics matters — not just for the environment, but for our community too.

From old phones, laptops, gaming consoles, cameras, keyboards, and even that mystery box of cords you’ve been hanging onto… those devices can have a second life. 🔌📱💻

At AZ StRUT, donated electronics are:
🔒 Securely wiped to protect your personal data
🎓 Used in STEM education and workforce development so students can learn hands-on tech skills
💚 Refurbished and redistributed to nonprofits and community members who can use them
♻️ Responsibly recycled through downstream partners when they can’t be reused

As Jared shared, keeping electronics out of landfills helps protect our environment, reduces harmful waste, and supports a more sustainable future — all while creating real educational opportunities for Arizona students.

And if you’re doing some spring cleaning, remember:
If you’re donating a device with data on it, we recommend doing a quick wipe first. We even have simple Windows and Mac wipe guides available on our website to help make it easy.

Today, we celebrate the power of recycling, reuse, and community impact. Every cable, computer, and electronic device properly recycled helps keep harmful e-waste out of our landfills and gives technology a second life.

At AZ StRUT, we’re proud to help our community recycle responsibly while protecting the environment and supporting digital inclusion through refurbished technology.
