Arts Council of Tamworth

Arts Council of Tamworth The mission of Arts Tamworth is to inspire, support, and empower our rural community through .

Arts Council of Tamworth, the first organization of its kind in New Hampshire, has been enriching Tamworth and the surrounding area since 1966. Over those years this grassroots organization has grown from a small group of volunteers helping to set up local cultural events to an organization whose activities have included professionally produced performances by local acts as well as nationally and

internationally known artists, an annual art exhibition, arts enrichment for children and the community, and more. Now, Arts Council of Tamworth brings several substantial artist residencies and performances annual to school and community and strives to offer creative opportunities that are accessible to all community members. Arts Council of Tamworth is managed by a board of directors, with the help of a part-time executive director and a dedicated group of volunteers. Arts Council of Tamworth’s success and longevity can be credited to these key players, to the Tamworth Foundation’s decades of support, to the state and regional arts organizations that provide programming grants, to its local business sponsors and advertisers, and to community members who donate money, time and energy to the organization. In the twenty-first century, Arts Council of Tamworth continues to change in response to changing economic and cultural environments. Arts Council of Tamworth is committed to manifesting its mission through activities that meet a true need in the community, that do not duplicate services offered by other organizations, and that support other organizations with similar missions. Nearly fifty years after its inception, Arts Council of Tamworth is still working to create new artistic and cultural opportunities accessible to all residents of this town, county, and region, and to work in partnership with other arts and educational organizations.

MEET THE AUTHORS OF THE 7/11/2026 TAMWORTH AUTHOR FEST: AMY KNEELAND

Trained by the Institute for Writers, she infuses her storytelling with immersive narratives, compelling characters, and memorable dialogue that resonates with readers. In her novel THE PEACOCK & THE RAVEN, women hold the titles, the estates, and the societal power, while men navigate the social pressures of securing advantageous matches and proving their worth in a world that often underestimates them.

Today, we honor Juneteenth, a day of freedom, remembrance, and reflection.

For writers, readers, and storytellers, Juneteenth is also a reminder of the power of voice: whose stories have been told, whose stories have been silenced, and why it matters that we continue to make space for truth, history, creativity, and community.

At New Hampshire Writers’ Project, we believe stories help us understand one another more deeply. Today, we recognize the importance of Black voices, Black history, and the ongoing work of building a more just and inclusive literary community.
