Happy as can bee!!! 🐝

The sensory bin welcomed the little artists with some buzzing friends to explore. Yellow oobleck gave the impression of slow, sticky honey and shiny squishy gelatin gave our bees a place to land. As the two substances mixed it become a new goopy texture, almost looking as if you squeezed honey comb through your fingers! 🍯

Our process art station gave us an invitation to use some bright yellow glue, flowing it over our hexagon shapes and adding bees and comb shapes, ribbon, and glitter glue too! We also used packaging material to stamp honey comb shapes on our page!

The play dough station was buzzing with some new 3D printed dough cutters and rollers (courtesy of Conway Public Library🥰). I love to see the creations the artists make as they roll, chop, and squeeze the dough, arranging homes for bees, and decorating them with all the gems and pieces they can find! 🐝 🌼

Flowers for Mom 💐💕

Those April rain showers sure brought some beautiful May flowers for the first class of the May session!

Our sensory bin was a beans bin, with flower pots to fill and arrange beautiful flowers in! I love to see how they will create with flowers and look to their mom or caregiver, offering up the flower arrangement they made, just showing innate kindness and the giving spirit of childhood 🥰

At the play dough station we created flowers with gems, flower cutters and stamps, green stems and more! 🌷

We had a creation station where they could put together an arrangement for their mom, grandparents or caregivers. Coloring in flowers and adding gems to them, then they could wrap them up to give away if they so desired 🫶🏽

April Showers…🌧️☔️💧

For the last class of April we painted a rain storm! The little artists spent time painting the rain drops falling from our billowing clouds! They painted and sprayed clear umbrellas, with flowing blue little drip drops falling from them as they sprayed. Many of the littles sat under the umbrellas as they were painted & sprayed which was so magical! The little artists have no clue what skills they are working on, they just know they are having fun! Painting hanging pieces works their shoulders and elbow stability, trunk and core strength, crossing the midline, hand eye coordination and so much more! 😍🙌🏽🤩

We explored a sensory bin of blue and white tapioca pearls (taste safe water beads) These are so fun and are always a big hit. Filling, scooping, pouring, and feeling the texture of the tapioca is so relaxing. I find that in the middle of the hubbub of class they will take some time at the bin to recoup, as well as the play dough table. 💧😌

Finally we filled puffy white pompoms and cotton balls with blue liquid watercolors, filling and releasing droppers into the clouds. As they clouds filled water flowed down the paper like a rain storm! 🌧️

I wonder what will come after all of our April showers 😊

The earth is something we all have in common, let’s take care of her 🌍🌱♥️♻️

Fridays class was themed around Earth Day, a day to remember to care for our planet and think about this beautiful place we all call home. We used a bean bin filled with scraps of trash (I collect for class😉), we worked on sorting the trash into bins and talked a bit about caring for the planet and how animals and our planet can be harmed if we don’t help by picking up litter. ♻️ 🗑️ 🌍

Our process project was wet felting! It’s something I’ve wanted to try out for a while and finally found a great way to implement it with little artists! We used shades of blue and green, taking little bits of wool and piling them up into mini tart pans. Once we had mounds of color we added soapy water on top and patted down the wool until it started sticking together - becoming felted. We then scrubbed it between a couple pieces of recycled bubble wrap, getting the felted wool stronger the more we scrubbed and massaged! We all ended up with the most beautiful felted earths to admire 🌎😍

The dough station has blue and green dough, earth dough mats, and lots of blue and green pieces and animals to create with! 🪲🐟🌏🌲
