Welcome to the celebration of the 25th year of FolkWorks. Yes, we started in January 2001 as a hard copy newspaper. At the time, folk and folk related activities were well hidden. You couldn't find info about concerts, dances, etc. in the mass media (L.A. Times, L.A. Weekly, etc.) and we took it upon ourselves to rectify the situation. We reached out to folks in the community to help. There are way too many to list and thank... so, you know who you are and a big THANK YOU to all it made it happen.
Over the next few months we will dig into the archives and feature some of our favorites.

In January 2001, we had this crazy idea that we would bring on the Folk revolution. Thus, FolkWorks was created with a small, dedicated board and a crew of volunteers. We recruited writers, sold ads, and distributed 15,000 newspapers bi-monthly throughout Southern California. With your support and encouragement, we grew and presented concerts, sponsored dances, and held festivals. In 2007, we moved from hard copy to an online website. Take a look at our updated website, https://folkworks.org/, which includes an archive of every issue of the newspaper published plus recent monthly newsletters.

Join us as we celebrate this special occasion with exciting guests and co-conspirators in a concert presenting different faces of folk music.

Money Musk (also spelled Monymusk, Moneymusk, or similar variants) is a traditional Scottish reel closely associated with Scottish and later North American country dancing. The melody originated as a composition by Daniel Dow in 1776 and remains one of the best-known tunes in the Scottish traditional repertoire because of its enduring connection to the dance of the same name.
