On Friday, May 22, something really special happened outside the Talent Historical Museum. 🌿
Our community came together to unveil “Ecological Narratives: Biodiversity & Belonging”, a new mural by renowned Talent artist .art
This mural is rooted in the living history of this land. It features seven plants native to the Rogue Valley - manzanita, sunflower, camas, nicotiana, iris, tarweed, and strawberry - each one cultivated and used by the Indigenous peoples of this region now and for generations, for food, materials, and medicine.
It’s a tribute to the First Nations people who stewarded this land long before us, and an invitation for all of us to carry that stewardship forward, especially as a community that knows firsthand how fragile and precious this landscape is.
For KYRIANNA, who was born and raised right here in Talent, this project was deeply personal. Neighbors, families, and friends gathered to hear her speak, learn about the native plants depicted in the mural, color pages of each plant drawn in her own hand, and take it all in together.
This is what community looks like. 💛
“Ecological Narratives” is part of the Our Stories Through Art project, a cultural placemaking initiative brought to life through a collaboration of the Talent Business Alliance, the Talent Historical Society, Coalición Fortaleza, Talent Maker City, and the Talent Public Arts Committee.
We also want to thank the City of Talent for its support of this project and the Oregon Community Foundation for its generous support which made this project possible.
