🦪 Our Coast Has a Story — And What a Story It Is!

More than 100 guests joined us on October 8 for a fascinating journey into North Carolina's oyster history with acclaimed coastal historian Dr. David Cecelski!

Through captivating stories and historic photographs, Cecelski brought to life the African American oyster shuckers, immigrant workers, and coastal communities that helped build North Carolina's once-thriving oyster industry.

🌊 His stories reminded us that protecting our coast also means understanding and preserving its rich cultural heritage.

A special highlight was the Oyster Photo Exhibit from North Carolina Sea Grant, celebrating the people and traditions of our coastal communities.

💚 Special thanks to the Historical Society of Topsail Island for hosting and promoting this wonderful luncheon, proudly sponsored by Conserve The Point – Topsail.

🦪 Rain Couldn't Dampen Our Celebration of The Point! 🌊

Nearly 70 friends and supporters joined us for Conserve The Point – Topsail's 3rd Annual Oyster Roast for the Coast at Surf City Brewing Co.!

It was an afternoon of great oysters, music, community spirit, and a shared commitment to protecting the place we all love.

Special thanks to our guest speakers, Jonathan Lucas, who reminded us why ongoing stewardship matters, and Lindsay Addison of Audubon North Carolina, who highlighted the importance of volunteer conservation in protecting coastal bird habitats.

🌊 Oysters have a story, too! Thanks to the NC Coastal Federation for sharing information about oyster shell recycling and featuring the Oyster Photo Exhibit, celebrating the people and traditions of North Carolina's oyster industry.

👏 Huge thanks to Surf City Brewing Co., N. Sea Oyster Co., Fusion Blue, musician Doug McFarland, and Cricket TenPas of Grasshopper Studio for making the event so special!

💚 Saving The Point was only the beginning. Together, we're committed to caring for this extraordinary coastal treasure for generations to come.

Just a week from today! Come join us at Autumn with Topsail. While you are shopping for great local crafts, enjoying wonderful food and listening to the live bands, stop by our Conserve the Point booth to hear about our continued conservation, education and stewardship work for the Topsail Nature Preserve at The Point. Along with educational information, we will have t-shirts, hats, calendars, bags and other items available.

TODAY is the day! What to do on a cloudy, possibly drizzly day? Come to our celebration of the new Topsail Nature Preserve and our community's continuing conservation efforts. There is plenty of room inside and outside of the Surf City Brewing Company, so come rain or shine. Enjoy fresh local raw and roasted oysters, great food truck meals, local brews and w**e and great music. Relax with your friends and neighbors while looking over the oyster photo exhibit. We are having a silent auction of a hand painted surf board and raffle for a oyster gift certificate. Another successful season of stewardship of the Topsail Nature Preserve at The Point. Thanks to the many more stewards that helped educate our visitors and residents about the importance of preserving this unique place while enjoying the natural beauty of the beach.

It’s always a good time getting together with the South Topsail Stewards! This season’s Stewards met up to celebrate another successful summer on South Topsail Preserve.
