It is with profound sadness that the officers and members of Diligence Fire Company No. 1 learned of the passing of Borough Council President David Wargo.

David dedicated countless hours to serving our borough and its residents. Through his leadership, commitment, and unwavering belief in public service, he worked tirelessly to help move our community forward. His efforts helped shape the borough we know today, and his impact will be felt for many years to come.

As Borough Council President, David approached his responsibilities with professionalism, integrity, and a genuine concern for the well-being of our residents. He understood the importance of local government and the role it plays in maintaining and improving the quality of life within our community. Whether addressing challenges, planning for the future, or working alongside fellow elected officials and borough staff, David consistently put the interests of the community first.

David was also a strong supporter of the borough’s emergency services. He recognized the importance of ensuring that firefighters, emergency responders, and public safety personnel had the support and resources necessary to protect our community. His willingness to work collaboratively with our department and advocate for the needs of public safety was greatly appreciated and will not be forgotten.

For the members of Diligence Fire Company No. 1, this loss is especially personal. David was a past member of our department, serving as a Fire Police Officer. He understood firsthand the dedication, sacrifice, and commitment required of volunteer emergency responders. His service to our department reflected the same spirit of community involvement and public service that he carried throughout his life and career. We are proud to have called him one of our own and grateful for the time he spent serving alongside us.

Beyond his official titles and accomplishments, David was someone who genuinely cared about the people of this community. He was always willing to listen, lend a hand, and work toward solutions that benefited the borough and its residents. His dedication to public service was evident in everything he did, and his legacy will continue to be felt throughout the community he cared so deeply about.

On behalf of the entire membership of Diligence Fire Company No. 1, we extend our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to David’s wife, Katie, his daughter, Kathryn, and their entire family. We hope they find comfort in knowing how deeply David was respected, appreciated, and admired by the community he served so faithfully.

We also extend our sincere sympathies to his fellow council members, the Borough Administrative Staff, the Public Works Department, the Summit Hill Police Department, and all who had the privilege of working alongside him. We recognize the profound loss they are experiencing and thank them for their continued commitment to serving our community during this difficult time.

As we mourn David’s passing, we also celebrate a life dedicated to service, leadership, and community. His contributions as a public servant, community leader, and former member of our department will not be forgotten. The impact he made on our borough and the people within it will continue to be felt for generations to come.

Rest easy, David. Thank you for your service to Diligence Fire Company No. 1, your leadership as Borough Council President, and your unwavering commitment to the residents of Summit Hill. Your legacy of service, dedication, and community pride will endure, and you will be greatly missed.

🚒 Joint Training Night 🚒

Tonight, members of Diligence Fire Co. No. 1 trained alongside firefighters from the Lansford Fire Department and the Coaldale Fire Department on the operation and deployment of our new TFT Oasis Hydrant Valve.

The TFT Oasis is designed to improve water supply operations by providing additional flexibility and efficiency when utilizing fire hydrants during emergency incidents. This new equipment will help our department better manage water resources and support fireground operations when they matter most.

During the training, firefighters reviewed proper installation procedures, valve operation, and various water supply scenarios. Members from all three departments had the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with the equipment while strengthening the teamwork and coordination that are essential during emergency responses.

Training with neighboring departments is invaluable, as these are the same companies we work alongside on incidents throughout the Panther Valley area. By training together, we ensure that everyone is familiar with the equipment and can work seamlessly together when called upon.

We would like to thank the members of the Lansford Fire Department and the Coaldale Fire Department for joining us for this productive evening of training. Through continued cooperation, training, and investment in modern equipment, we remain committed to providing the highest level of service to our communities.

Last night’s drill night at Diligence Fire Co. No. 1 focused on Truck Company Operations, giving our members the opportunity to strengthen and refine critical firefighting skills that are essential on the fireground.

Members were divided into two separate training groups throughout the evening. One group concentrated on ground ladder operations, working on proper ladder carries, raises, placements, and safety procedures. These skills are vital for providing emergency egress, ventilation access, and rescue operations during incidents.

The second group focused on aerial truck operations, reviewing aerial positioning, setup procedures, operational safety, and effective use of the truck’s aerial device during emergency responses. Training with our apparatus allows members to remain comfortable and confident with the equipment they rely on when seconds matter most.

Consistent hands-on training is one of the most important parts of maintaining a safe and effective fire department. Drill nights like this help build teamwork, reinforce fundamentals, and ensure our firefighters are prepared to serve the community at the highest level possible.

We would like to thank all of our members who took part in the training and continue to dedicate countless hours to improving their knowledge, skills, and readiness for the residents and visitors we proudly serve.

The members of Diligence Fire Co. No. 1 extend our heartfelt condolences to the members of the Jim Thorpe Fire Department, Diligent Fire Company #3, and the entire Yaich family on the passing of Vince Yaich Sr.

Vince dedicated 52 years of his life to the fire service, answering the call whenever his community needed him. His service and commitment reached far beyond Jim Thorpe, including assisting fellow firefighters on numerous fire details and serving 35 years as a DCNR Forest Fire Warden with the Weiser Forest District Warden’s Association.

A lifetime member of Diligent Fire Company #3, Vince helped shape generations of firefighters through his knowledge, experience, and leadership. His dedication reflects the true meaning of volunteer fire service — sacrificing time with family, holidays, and countless personal moments to protect others.

The fire service has lost a devoted firefighter, mentor, and brother.

Please keep the Yaich family and the members of Diligent Fire Company #3 in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Rest easy, Vince.
