This garment was designed by one of our volunteers, and the Tee Shirt sale was organized by one of our great teams! You can get yours in size Medium, Large, or Extra-Large for the price of $20. You can order by phone 570 778 4734.

Our 32nd Anthracite Walk and Luminaria Service will take place on September 27th, from 5PM to 9:30PM, at the Tamaqua High School Stadium. Our event’s mission is to end cancer as we know it, for everyone, by improving the lives of people with cancer and their families through advocacy, research, and patient support, ensuring that everyone has an opportunity to prevent, detect, treat, and survive cancer.

This event is open to the public and everyone is invited. There will be music by Hatter, a versatile band that always guarantees wonderful music, along with soloist Angela Nardini confirming our motivation and commitment. There will be a basket raffle and a 50/50. Food will be provided by St. Luke’s Hospital, Miners Campus, which will include hot dogs, hamburgers, barbeque, halushki, pierogies, pizza, and ice cream sundaes. We will also be having a bake sale. Cancer education, and resource support materials will be available. Healthy eating examples will be displayed by our Shade Squad with support materials.

We will be joined by guest speaker, Eric Rothstein, Director of Star Community Health at St. Luke’s University Health Network. Cancer survivor, Linda Carlson, who will share her story and talk about the importance of raising awareness and support to fight cancer. Celena Strazel will tell what it means to her to Relay in support of her mother and her 5 year journey with breast cancer.

The evening will be topped off by our signature event, The Luminaria Ceremony. The luminaria will be sold throughout the evening for any one who wants to support, honor and remember those affected by cancer. Then, at 8:30, the candles in the luminaria bags will be lit around the perimeter of the track. And, Candlelit Laps will be made in honor and remembrance.

Community support is so vital to this fight that affects everyone in some way.

We ALL know someone to SUPPORT - to HONOR - to REMEMBER!!

Shine a Light and Help in Their Name with a Luminaria! It is so important that we keep fighting!!

Tomorrow (Friday) morning I am driving a box truck to Philadelphia to pick up a bunch of donations for the American Cancer Society. I will live the Tamaqua/Lansford vicinity at 7-7:30am with the expectation of arriving at our center city donor location at 9 or 9:30. Traffic, you know. Upon arrival we will be given access to the warehouse, and use the freight elevator and carts to bring the donations to the loading dock and put them in the truck. As soon as we are done loading, we head back to Lansford or Coaldale to drop off the donations (storage destination will be finalized in the next few hours.

I am hoping one individual might volunteer to ride along with me and help load the truck on the Philadelphia end, and maybe even unload when we get back. Send me a private message if this is something you can consider.
